Arch Wireless and Emergin Announce Strategic Alliance to Enhance Reliability for Critical Messaging Users

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., and BOCA RATON, Fla., May 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Arch Wireless, Inc. a leading provider of paging and mobile messaging service, and Emergin, Inc., a leading provider of text messaging and notification software, today announced a strategic alliance to provide Arch's one-way and two-way messaging and mobile data services to critical messaging users with Emergin's messaging and event notification software, Emergin Notification Software (ENS). Arch Wireless and Emergin are collaborating on sales and marketing, technical support and engineering efforts to deliver this joint solution.

The companies said the joint solution enables organizations to realize greater messaging reliability, redundancy and scalability at a lower total cost of ownership. ENS, Emergin's 5th generation off-the-shelf messaging and event notification software, is designed to leverage Arch's sophisticated WCTP messaging gateway and industry leading network redundancy with its device and protocol sequencing, fail-over capabilities and ability to bypass public switched network (PSN) congestion during catastrophic events. The solution also lowers the total cost of ownership by eliminating outbound line charges from PBX and Centrex systems, improving dispatcher and administrator productivity, and allowing customers to use existing infrastructure, devices and systems with minimal incremental cost.
Working together, ENS and Arch provide integrated communication between dispatchers, applications, devices, and end-users. ENS dispatches messages to pre-defined groups of users, including Arch's one-way and two-way messaging devices. Each message is logged by ENS as it is queued and accepted onto the Arch network, allowing organizations to track messages in real-time. Message delivery and reply information is also tracked for two-way devices. In addition, ENS enables organizations to assign users with aliases to simplify dispatch and provide number portability. ENS runs on the Microsoft Windows OS, offers multiple input and output options from a scalable and centrally managed platform, and integrates with numerous enterprise applications.
Arch and Emergin noted that their joint solution is ideally suited to organizations with critical communications needs, such as hospitals, government agencies and large enterprises. Chris Schuiteboer, senior analyst- telecom at Bronson Healthcare Group in Kalamazoo, MI, said, "The Arch-Emergin solution is used for code, group and individual paging across the campus. We've extended text messaging functionality via the intranet for easy access to mobile devices, including alphanumeric and two-way pagers, and mobile phones. In addition, the built-in message logging helps provide a very important audit trail. Overall, it has greatly enhanced communications."
"The Arch and Emergin partnership delivers the most effective solution in the industry for critical messaging," said Alan Rosenbaum, vice president of corporate sales and marketing for Arch Wireless. "Together, Arch and Emergin are helping users, such as medical professionals and first responders, focus on their vital work by ensuring that critical messages are delivered quickly and reliably. Combined with our ability to lower the total cost of messaging, this solution provides true value to our customers."
"Combining Emergin's notification solutions with Arch's powerful network brings an entirely new level of wireless connectivity to the enterprise," said Michael A. McNeal, president and chief executive officer of Emergin. "Now a richer level of information is available to Arch customers. Particularly in healthcare, mission-critical information and alerts can be received by personnel no matter where they are within a facility."
