Boulder Nonlinear Systems Enters OEM Arena
LAFAYETTE, Colo., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Boulder Nonlinear Systems, Inc. (BNS) today announced its entry into the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) marketplace. This move is seen as significant in that BNS for the first time adds a commercial component to its core business of government-sponsored research and development.
"SBIR and other forms of external funding have served us quite well over the years," notes company President and CEO Marty Best. "Our decision to participate in the OEM arena provides a commercial outlet for us to expand marketing and distribution of our core liquid crystal technology developments. We are very excited about this strategy and have high expectations on its impact to our continued growth and commercial success."
Founded in 1988 in Boulder, Colorado -- BNS has developed a variety of liquid crystal components and systems including Optical Shutters and Spatial Light Modulators (SLMs). To date, this offering primarily catered to university and government agencies interested in the latest, cutting-edge optical developments.
Recent changes to the company's website (at http://www.bnonlinear.com/) highlight this important announcement. Three new Optical Shutter series are now described, including draft Data Sheets for each. Each Optical Shutter series highlights an important user need -- maximum extinction ratio, maximum speed, or maximum open state transmittance. The company expects this marketing approach to simplify customer communications and specification requirements.
Best goes on to describe the drivers behind the decision. "For years, our strategy has focused on anticipated requirements for government, military, and other research customers. Now, we have broadened our addressable market. Without a tremendous investment in infrastructure, we can leverage existing technology solutions and package those technologies for application-specific OEM requirements. It's a win-win situation."
BNS expects to make regular additions to its new OEM offering. Custom Polarization Rotators, Beam Attenuators, and Variable Waveplates are each planned for release in the coming months.
