France's BANQUE POPULAIRE GROUP Uses Fair Isaac Rules Management Technology to Help Drive Basel II Compliance

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- March 31, 2004 -- 19 Banque Populaire regional banks take advantage of rapid deployment and flexibility of Blaze Advisor-based technology

Fair Isaac Corporation (NYSE:FIC), the leading provider of analytics and decision technology, today announced that BANQUE POPULAIRE GROUP, one of France's top five banking groups, has implemented Fair Isaac Blaze Advisor rules management technology as a key part of its Basel Capital Accord (Basel II) compliance strategy.

The adoption of Blaze Advisor allows BANQUE POPULAIRE GROUP to rapidly configure, deploy and maintain business rules as decision-making components in its automated applications. Specifically, the Group utilizes Fair Isaac's advanced rules management software to develop effective risk management processes for calculating capital requirements and performing data quality assurance for its consumer and business portfolios. Nineteen of Banque Populaire Group's 23 member retail banks have chosen to implement the Blaze Advisor-based solution to prepare for compliance with the Accord's capital requirements.

The Group is committed to a rapid implementation of Basel II requirements for risk management, said Bernard Gouraud, IT Director for BANQUE POPULAIRE GROUP. Fair Isaac's business rule technology serves as a foundation for rebuilding our risk evaluation techniques and methodologies on a global basis, ensuring that the Group and its member banks will be fully prepared to quickly and effectively respond to forthcoming Basel II regulations.

Blaze Advisor brings measured, real ROI to BANQUE POPULAIRE GROUP by allowing greater business agility, lower programming costs, easier maintenance, more visibility into and control over how business decisions are being made, and better consistency in carrying out the best actions for any business condition. The Group estimates that the adoption of Fair Isaac's rules management technology has helped cut programming time by 30 percent during the development phase of the project compared to conventional programming approaches. Blaze Advisor also is expected to reduce programming time for future updates and maintenance by 50 to 75 percent.

With close to a half-century of experience helping clients improve credit risk management, Fair Isaac is uniquely qualified to help banks prepare to comply with the New Basel Accord, said Robert Duque-Ribeiro, vice president of International Sales for Fair Isaac. Blaze Advisor affords Banque Populaire the ability to develop and update complex risk management applications quickly and without programming delays or interruption to their operational decisions. And the solution's extraordinary flexibility will allow them to easily make modifications as international regulations evolve.

Basel II, developed to enhance the stability of global financial systems, redefines the methodology institutions use for calculating capital reserves, making these calculations more sensitive to risk. Credit grantors like Banque Populaire are actively preparing now for the January 1, 2007 implementation deadline, when the Accord is set to go into effect. The implementation of best practice credit and operational risk management techniques will play a key role in helping lenders achieve competitive advantages in capital calculations and requirements.

Because sophisticated risk management is core to Fair Isaac's business, the company's solutions and services help clients achieve regulatory compliance in France, in Europe and throughout the world.

About Blaze Advisor

Blaze Advisor allows business-level policymakers to formalize and centrally store their policies, practices, and procedures as sets of rules specifying what actions should be taken in any business situation. Complex decision processes can be modeled with decision process flows, indicating which rules should be considered under different circumstances. Rules can be thoroughly analyzed, tested, and documented in the development environment before being deployed to almost any production environment. The software runs on all major operating systems and hardware platforms and is currently available in 10 major European and Asian languages.

Fair Isaac will offer demonstrations of its Blaze Advisor technology as well as comprehensive discussions on new Basel II implementation directions at next month's InterACT conference in Prague, Czech Republic, April 27-30.
