CellStar Breaks Ground With the Market's First Complete Reverse Logistics Solution
CELLULAR TELECOMMUNICATIONS & INTERNET ASSOCIATION WIRELESS SHOW, March 22
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CellStar Corporation , a value-added wireless logistics services leader, today announced the launch of its breakthrough reverse logistics solution that also delivers its customers a sophisticated set of asset recovery management tools. Branded Omnigistics(SM), the CellStar logistics portfolio brings depth and breadth to its customers' ability to monitor and control the supply chain -- forward and reverse.
During the last 18 months CellStar has made a multi-million dollar investment to strategically position its U.S. operation for future growth. This effort included the launch of Omnigistics, featuring CellStar's innovations in reverse logistics. The investment also included significant advancements in business process engineering, software systems integration and upgrades including a 4PL enterprise management system, training and a new facility located in a free trade zone.
Until now, 'reverse logistics' has been the most difficult and costly process to manage in the wireless industry -- often referred to as 'the black hole' of the business. Every month, carriers and big retailers take back thousands of expensive handsets, all serialized and with different warranty policies, and send them to outside repair and refurbishment centers, said Chris Smith, senior vice president and general manager of CellStar's U.S. region.
Integrated systems for keeping track of individual returned assets, costs of repair, warranty credits, and final disposition simply didn't exist until today, Smith continues. CellStar's new service changes all that, and equips our customers with an innovative, end-to-end supply chain management system. To our customers, this means reverse logistics is no longer 'the black hole' of their business, but a high-value area of competitive advantage.
The robust reverse logistics service offering of Omnigistics(SM) provides CellStar customers enhanced returns management capabilities including tracking and reporting at every stage of the returns process at the unit (ESN) level; integration and visibility into third party providers like repair and refurbishment providers; automated alerts to queue exceptions; and automated, proceduralized exception handling rules, resulting in overall tighter cycle times and increased efficiencies. It's a single, integrated system that manages the entire reverse logistics process.
CellStar teamed with leading global IT services provider Computer Sciences Corporation to conduct its business process evaluation and re- engineering efforts. Likewise, CellStar selected Yantra -- the recognized leader in 4PL enterprise and complex supply chain management systems -- as its major software partner.
Yantra prides itself on delivering innovative solutions that help our customers and partners solve their most critical and complex supply chain and fulfillment challenges, said Jim Caudill, vice president Distribution at Yantra Corporation. CellStar was able to leverage our leading-edge technology and robust business process management capability, to connect supply chain participants and synchronize their activities. Teaming with an industry leader like CellStar is a win-win.
Thanks to our partners, this Omnigistics(SM) service set means our customers can now come to a single source -- CellStar -- for logistics solutions that maximize the total supply chain, forward and reverse, Smith noted.
CellStar's new Omnigistics reverse logistics platform is expected to be available to its customers by mid-April.
