ADB Announces a Low-End Cost DVB-T MHP Receiver for Retail

GENEVA --(Business Wire)-- June 24, 2004 -- Advanced Digital Broadcast Unveils a Fully Featured DVB-MHP Interactive Terrestrial Set-Top Box That Will Be Available in Retail Outlets at a Price Level Never before Achieved By MHP Interactive Receivers

ADB, a leading vendor of digital TV set-top boxes and software solutions for interactive television, has today announced its next MHP receiver, the i-CAN 2000T. This unique set-top box offers great value for money and will enable a great majority of households to experience and enjoy the world of interactive digital home entertainment.

ADB has specifically designed this set-top box to meet the growing demand for a low-cost receiver that effectively manages the interactive services that can be offered in digital TV networks. The i-CAN 2000T is destined for various countries in Europe which have adopted the DVB-MHP interactive standard. It will first be available in retail outlets in Italy starting in July via various distribution channels and consumer brands. It will be introduced in other countries in the autumn.

The i-CAN 2000T follows the remarkable success of its predecessor, the i-CAN 3000T, which has been recognized as the industry's Best Open Standard product (Mediacast, London 2003), and has established itself as the set-top box of choice for MHP content developers around the world. Not surprisingly, i-CAN 3000T has also been a major contributor to the effective launch of interactive terrestrial broadcasting in countries such as Finland and Italy.

Designed in Europe at ADB's R & D facilities in Poland, the i-CAN 2000T set-top box integrates the leading DVB-MHP 1.0.x open standard implementation from Osmosys for supporting interactive applications, and is powered by a state-of-the-art MPEG2 processor from STMicroelectronics. It is equipped with impressive memory resources, a PSTN V.92 modem return channel and a smart card reader for accessing personalized services. Connections to TV set, VCR and Home-Cinema amplifier are standard features. Additionally, a software loader for remote upgrades is integrated, allowing future services to be downloaded over the air.

"ADB's vast experience in interactive TV benefit consumers with reliable, robust and competitively priced products", says Luis Ballestero, Marketing Director at ADB. "On top of a perfect digital quality TV, the i-CAN 2000T now bridges the digital-divide by offering viewers a reliable and easy interface to interactive content/services at a breakthrough price."
