Overture Networks Wins Coolest New Companies Award From Telecommunications Magazine at SUPERCOMM 2004

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Overture Networks, a leading developer of packet-based multiservice access platforms, today announced it received Telecommunications Coolest New Companies for 2004 award at SUPERCOMM 2004. The company was one of 10 companies selected to win the coveted award and was the only metro multiservice access platform to receive the honor.

"Choosing our list of annual Hot Start-ups is always difficult and this year was no exception," said Sue O'Keefe, editor in chief of Telecommunications. "Despite the still difficult telecom climate and tight VC wallets, our editors were able to find 10 companies with what we felt had the ingredients for success." This year's winners were selected based on a number of criteria including strong financial backing, marketing savvy, proven leadership talent, and a product/architecture concept with the ability to make a strong impact in the telecom industry.
Overture Networks is tackling the large market opportunity presented by migrating metro networks to Ethernet and next-generation services while continuing to support legacy circuit infrastructure and services. The company's product suite, which consists of the ISG 5000, the ISG 2200, and the newly launched ISG 45 and ISG 45+, are purpose-built platforms designed to address these metro network challenges. The ISG family offers an array of interface types, ranging from Gigabit Ethernet to SONET/SDH to NxT1/E1, designed to serve all carriers metro networking needs. Further, the ISG line features patented circuit emulation through pseudo-wires and protected packet ring technology that gives the products carrier-class resiliency - restoring service from network outages in less than 50 milliseconds. Lastly, Overture Networks supports MPLS/VPLS services providing carriers with a clear, economical migration path to next-generation services.
"In today's market climate service providers are straining to generate new revenues while reducing network costs," said Sean Buckley, senior editor of Telecommunications. "Overture Networks driving purpose is to reduce the cost associated with deploying new, revenue generating Ethernet and MPLS/VPLS services to the metro network while simultaneously preserving a carrier's investment in its existing infrastructure. In developing its patented multiservice access platforms Overture Networks has successfully changed the deployment economics for carriers in the metro market which has the potential to make the company a real leader in the industry."
"We are thrilled to receive this distinction from Telecommunications," said Jeff Reedy, president and chief executive officer of Overture Networks. "The award validates our business strategy and technology expertise in delivering the metro area network's most innovative, packet-based multiservice access platforms. With the rollout of new products, deployment by major carriers, and several patent awards, Overture Networks is poised for a breakout year."
Telecommunications will present the Coolest New Companies for 2004 award to winners at a breakfast on June 22nd at 7:30 a.m. in Room S501 -- McCormick Place during SUPERCOMM 2004 in Chicago, Ill. Gary Morgenthaler, a partner at Morgenthaler Ventures, will be the introductory speaker at the event.
