GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill. --(Business Wire)-- June 4, 2004 -- Verification response e-mail security system minimizes false positives and gives organizations a reliable, virus-resistant, easy means of blocking automated junk e-mail

New and important E-mail messages arriving from outside sources now can be processed without fear of rejecting them as unwanted junk e-mail, thanks to a new mail server software add-on from SYSTEMSLOGIX which delivers multiple techniques to stop automated junk e-mail.

AntiSpam, installed on SendMail mail servers, blends a filtering program, algorithms and verification response. This three-tiered multiple defense also minimizes worries about rejecting desirable e-mail. When AntiSpam requests verification from a sender, automated spammers will rarely confirm their desire to send a message. However, legitimate senders can easily confirm by typing and returning an AntiSpam "passkey word" provided by the AntiSpam server.

Acting like a firewall, AntiSpam is administered by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or an organization's IT department. It enables the server to reliably block automated junk e-mails before they enter the users' inboxes. Unlike the variety of filter-only spam control systems now marketed, AntiSpam saves administrative time by eliminating the task of looking for legitimate e-mail which has been mistakenly flagged as junk. The system features verification response which places the burden of verifying e-mail messages on the spammer or the legitimate sender.

AntiSpam helps keep administrative overhead low by using an automated, multi-step process: -0- *T -- An e-mail arrives at the mail server, where AntiSpam regularly checks all incoming messages. -- AntiSpam comprehensively checks several criteria to determine whether the sender of the e-mail message is approved to send e-mail to the address. -- If a sender's e-mail address is on the organization's "Approved" or whitelist, the e-mail message is sent to the inbox. Administrators and users can pre-authorize senders such as legitimate contacts, vendors, customers, clients and those delivering messages to a mailing list on which the organization has agreed to reside. Files can be uploaded to AntiSpam containing all approved contact e-mail addresses. -- If a sender's e-mail address is on the "Blocked" or blacklist, the e-mail message is rejected. -- If the arriving e-mail is the sender's first e-mail to the organization, AntiSpam returns a verification e-mail. The sender must reply to in order to complete delivery. The sender must copy a special "passkey word" to the subject line of the return message. This prevents automated systems which send spam from authorizing themselves. -- If any sender fails to verify their address within the time set by the administrator (usually five to 10 days), the server will reject the e-mail message. During this time, administrators and users can view and manually authorize messages using AntiSpam's user Web site. -- Once a sender verifies, the original e-mail message is forwarded to the inbox and the sender's addresses is added to the user's whitelist. Each e-mail address need only be verified once. -- Whenever checking e-mail, users benefit because AntiSpam's blend of spam filtering, algorithms and verification response results in users receiving virus-free e-mail messages from approved senders only. *T

E-mail programs compatible with AntiSpam include Eudora, Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape, Entourage, Mail for Mac OSX and any program supporting the POP3 Protocol. Users can access the system via Microsoft Windows(R), Mac OS(R) and Linux(R) operating systems running standard Web browsers and POP e-mail programs.
