The owners of TV Authority recently sat down with Dealerscope Magazine to discuss the history of TV Authority and its increasingly prominent role as a leading resource for emerging digital display products.

Dealerscope reports that TV Authority's business model has allowed the company to identify emerging technologies and trends by working closely with the videophile community. TV Authority is predominately an internet company and initially, many manufacturers were skeptical of allowing their products to be sold online in what they consider to be a messy distribution channel."

"It was tough to get authorized product and sell through this channel. But what we've been able to do is to stick by the rules from day one, and because of that the pendulum has swung back, and we now have people coming to us wanting our customer base," says Kusens.

According to Dealerscope, one of TV Authority's recent expansions was the introduction of the Five-Star Program. DLPs, HDTV, home-theater projectors -- these are big purchases for most customers, and Kusens says his team believes they've found a choice way to differentiate themselves from the box-movers competing for that business. The crux of this program is a 30-day free trial, and we do not charge re-stocking fees on selected products -- a service that few in the industry are currently offering.

"We can do better phone service and walk somebody through their (on-screen) menus better than anyone at any big-box store," says Kusens. "If we know we can do that with a product, that's when it gets added to the Five-Star Program."

TV Authority continues to innovate and offer value added services to its loyal customer base. Dealerscope sums it up best: "If TV Authority's past performance is a signal of its future gains, then the company will be around for quite some time as a result of that customer service."
