[February 12, 2004] Government Identity Credential Technology, Policies Headline Smart Card Alliance Conference Speakers from the Department of Defense, Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Passport Office headline the agenda at the Smart Card Alliance 3rd Annual “Smart Cards in Government Conference” on March 9th and 10th, 2004 at the Hilton Crystal City National Airport Hotel in Arlington, VA.Other highlights of the conference are the Government Smart Card Project Managers meeting; an exhibition hall where the latest smart card, PKI and biometric technologies for security are demonstrated; and a new training program developed by the Alliance’s Educational Institute specifically for government personnel. The event is open to members and non-members. The agenda and online registration are available on the Alliance website at www.smartcardalliance.org. Axalto, formerly Schlumberger Smart Cards and Terminals, is the overall event sponsor for the second year in a row. Bank of America is also a conference sponsor. Exhibiting companies include Axalto, IBM, Datacard Group, Gemplus, GSA, SCM Microsystems, Maximus, OTI America and many others. The Government Smart Card Project Managers meeting kicks off the conference on the morning of the 9th. This bi-monthly gathering of government and private industry leaders, hosted by GSA’s Office of Governmentwide Policy and the Smart Card Alliance, is held to discuss the significant developments in government programs and technology. It is an open meeting and does not require participants to be registered for the Smart Card Alliance Conference in order to participate. A new format will be introduced for this year’s conference. To create a more interactive experience, all sessions will be made up of moderated panels with several experts sharing their unique viewpoints on each topic. Questions from the moderator and the audience will be asked of prominent speakers who will share fresh approaches to common concerns like standards, operability, scalability and system performance. Speakers include: Bill Holcombe, director GSA Office of Governmentwide Policy; Jim Zok, associate administrator, Maritime Administration, Department of Transportation; Bill Boggess, chief of the Access and Authentication Technology Division, Access Card Office, Department of Defense; Frank Moss, deputy assistant secretary for Passport Services, U.S. Passport Office; and Jack Cassidy, (title)senior advisor, Transportation Security Administration TSA. Their presentations will focus on technology and business issues for physical and logical security, credentialing policies, travel security, biometric match-on-card and federated identities. The Smart Card Alliance’s noted Educational Institute has developed a new course specifically for this conference to be held on March 8th immediately preceding the full conference program. The full day Government Card Technology course includes comprehensive training materials, presentations and open discussion about the application of smart card technology to physical security, identity management and payment.
