Franklin Express Goes Live with ASP Version of Delfour 3PL Logistics Software Solution

FRANKLIN, Ky. & MARKHAM, Ontario --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 18, 2004 -- Franklin Express, Inc., a regional motor transportation and dry storage warehouse services provider based in Franklin, KY has gone live with an Application Service Provider (ASP) version of Delfour Corporation's SmartEnterprise 2 third party logistics (3PL) management software system, it was announced by Franklin Express President Roy Reasonover and Delfour President & CEO Joe E. Couto. SmartEnterprise 2 replaced a custom-coded system that had long been in use at the company.

"We had many years of service from the previous system but with the growth and increasing complexity of our operations, we required a software platform with a more comprehensive range of features as well as higher performance and greater flexibility," said Reasonover. "The Delfour solution fulfills our current needs and will accommodate our future growth very well, since the company maintains an active development program to keep their solutions at the leading edge of logistics software."

Franklin Express' logistics software platform is hosted at Delfour's Data Center, rather than installed at the company's headquarters, a solution that enables the company to employ a state-of-the art logistics system without the need to staff an information technology department. The solution is comprised of the Enterprise Foundation integration platform, the WarehouseLogic automated warehouse management platform, the e-Vista web-enabled 24/7 supply chain visibility tool, the Active Desktop graphical user interface and single-screen control center, Supply Chain Event Manager, and d'Amigo, Delfour's proprietary data mining and alert activation tool.

According to Ron Mantlo, a partner in the company, Franklin Express considered a total of seven 3PL management solutions, selecting Delfour's SmartEnterprise 2 for its excellence as an integrated GUI-driven software platform and for the availability of a hosted ASP solution, a key factor in the selection.

"At Delfour, we've gone to great lengths to make our solutions available in a variety of forms, including on-site installations running under UNIX or Linux, remote implementations hosted at our data center, and true ASP applications," Delfour's Joe Couto said. "The ASP solution enabled Franklin Express to go live quickly and affordably while retaining the option to move to an on-site system later."

Franklin Express occupies more than 336,000 square feet of owned warehouse space in Franklin, KY. Its clientele includes such well-known firms as Perfetti Van Melle, manufacturer of Mentos and other candy products, Tyco Adhesives, InnoPak Corporation, Thomas & Betts, Engineered Polymers, Loparex, Inc. and Weyerhaeuser. Besides receiving, warehousing and shipping inventory, the company provides a range of fulfillment services, among them kitting, unpacking and repacking. It began operations in 1961 as a motor carrier and it launched warehouse operations in 1988.
