IT Industry Leaders Honored at CompTIA Breakaway Conference

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 11, 2004 -- Eleven individuals and organizations that have contributed to the betterment of the information technology (IT) industry were recently honored for their efforts by CompTIA, the Computing Technology Industry Association. The CompTIA Industry Contribution awards were presented at the association's annual Breakaway conference, the IT industry's premiere partnering event for solutions providers and resellers.

"The individuals honored with these awards have made extraordinary contributions," said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. "We are fortunate to work with so many people willing to contribute their time and talents to advance the IT industry."

The award for Most Engaged Member was presented to Alan Borck, president and chief executive officer of ARC Communications of Piscataway, N.J. Borck was recognized for his contributions and active participation in the IT channel, including volunteerism, keynote speaking and acting as a catalyst for solutions, partnerships and relationship building.

The Member Newcomer of the Year award went to Dan Schwab, vice president, marketing, D&H Distributing of Harrisburg, Pa. The newcomer award goes to an industry member new to CompTIA in 2003-2004 who embraced the spirit of membership values. Also honored at the Breakaway conference was Dr. Yvette Marrin, president of the National Christina Foundation. The foundation provides computer technology and solutions to give people with disabilities, students at risk and economically disadvantaged persons the opportunity, through training, to lead more independent and productive lives. The National Cristina Foundation is working to ensure that used computer technology resources that no longer meet an enterprise's or an individual's needs are given a second productive life as a tool for developing human potential across America and around the world,

Two companies - Tech Data Corp. of Clearwater, Fla., and Ingram Micro of Santa Ana., Calif. - received Valued Channel Communities awards for embracing the spirit of listening to the IT channel and delivering choice, value and support to the reseller and manufacturer communities.

In the electronic commerce category, Richard Morrissey, director, e-business development, American Power Conversion Corp. of West Kingston, R.I., was recognized for his volunteerism, commitment, leadership, and involvement in the CompTIA European Electronic Commerce Standards Board and Electronics Industry Data Exchange Leadership Group.
