Full Mesh Networks Launches First Wireless Intrusion Detection and Remote Hacker Shutdown Service

RESTON, Va. --(Business Wire)-- Aug. 10, 2004 -- New Service Enables Businesses to Monitor and Secure Wireless Airspace for Less than a Penny a Square Foot per Month

Full Mesh Networks, Inc., a Managed Security Services Provider specializing in WiFi (802.11) and Bluetooth security, who recently announced its dollar-per-user-per-month managed secure WLAN offering, announced today immediate availability of a fully managed Wireless Intrusion Detection System, a revolutionary new and low-cost approach to securing an organization's wireless airspace from rogue devices and wireless hacking attempts.

Using the Red-M suite of wireless security products at the core of the service, Full Mesh's Wireless Intrusion Detection System can monitor all 802.11a/b/g and Bluetooth activity and shutdown a rogue 802.11 device or wireless hacking attempt within minutes of detection by Full Mesh personnel.

"There are a lot of claims out there, but the ability to remotely shutdown rogue devices and wireless hackers in real time is a feature we haven't seen anywhere else," said Steve Shippa, co-founder of Full Mesh Networks. "Combine this with the comprehensive set of alerts, the fact we scan all 14 channels and the array of devices captured and you have a solution that is second to none."

Customer Benefits

The core of Full Mesh's Wireless Intrusion Detection and response service infrastructure is centrally managed; allowing Full Mesh to spread the costs over multiple customers. This eliminates the need for a large hardware investment, time to configure and integrate a wireless intrusion detection solution and the hiring and/or training of additional staff to manage and monitor the business' wireless airspace.

"We've had the Full Mesh solution in place since January and couldn't be happier. It's amazing how easy it was to install compared to other solutions. We literally just plugged in the probes and we were up," said Alec Berry, CEO of RestonTech, a wireless ISP in Reston, Va.

Full Mesh deploys pre-configured hardware probes at the customer site that send data to Full Mesh's centrally managed systems that are monitored 24x7x365 by Full Mesh personnel. Wireless devices and activities are automatically sorted by threat level and appropriate actions are taken with respect to the customer's security policies or Full Mesh's standard operating procedures if no security policy is yet formalized.

"One of the most compelling aspects of the Full Mesh service is the ease of deployment and low total cost of ownership. We offer a solution that could easily cost a business tens of thousands of dollars in hardware, to say nothing of several months of configuration and integration work, as an instantly deployable, fully managed wireless security solution for less than a penny per square foot per month with everything included and no additional training or staff requirements on the part of the customer," said Bill Bullock, co-founder of Full Mesh Networks.

Gartner, a leading research and advisory firm, reports that companies will get the most efficient WLAN intrusion detection protection from a vendor-independent dedicated sensor investment. The overwhelming advantage of this method is that all WLAN traffic can be detected regardless of the equipment and vendors involved.

"We've walked into countless corporate settings around the world only to find critical lapses in wireless security," said Karl Feilder, president and CEO of wireless control specialist, Red-M. "Network administrators are simply overwhelmed and without an intrusion detection system they would have virtually no control over the security risks imposed via their PCs, cell phones and other devices. By providing wireless security via a hosted model, Full Mesh is not only helping them mitigate those risks but decreasing the cost and complexity of providing enterprise-class wireless security for the masses."
