Leading City Business Consultant Joins Connect Midlands To Launch Pioneering Investment Programme For West Midlands
Robert Read, a leading business and commercial management consultant from the City of London, has joined Connect Midlands to lead its West Midlands InvoRed programme, a pioneering business initiative that helps organisations shape themselves to become more attractive to investors and to raise funding of between £10k and £5million.
Mr Read (39) joins Connect Midlands from Fhios Ltd a human/digital Interaction Research and Consultancy, where he was commercial director. His previous experience includes business consultancy, company ownership and non-executive directorships within companies usually at the forefront of some type of innovative technology.
The Midlands region is vastly under-estimated in terms of its technological collateral, said Mr Read.
It may need some structural work to see that companies and investors work more closely together. We also need to achieve a much greater national profile and awareness of what technology based companies are already achieving in the region.
Connect Midlands has laid the foundations to give a programme like InvoRed a great opportunity to succeed. Im tremendously pleased to have been given the chance to use my experience across technology, engineering and business to deliver that programme and I cannot wait to make a start.
Mr Read starts with Connect Midlands on April 21. Originally from Liverpool, he has an MSc from the Liverpool John Moore University and an MBA from the University of Aberdeen. It was after joining the nuclear industry from university in an engineering role in the late 1980s that a secondment to Texas fuelled a career-shift towards technology.
My year in Texas was a defining moment in my career in that I saw first-hand how the Americans had so much get-up-and-go and saw technology as something very valuable and vital to the economy. People in technology are seen as being much sought-after and successful, rather than as boffins or part of an unusual group.
We need to create this feeling and attitude here in the UK starting with the West Midlands.
The InvoRed programme is an investment readiness scheme designed to provide technology companies, or innovators with technology-based ideas and plans, with expert guidance in attracting investors. The programme is backed by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) and the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund), and is open to technology companies, or innovators with technology-based ideas and plans.
