GigaTest Labs Delivers PCI Express Connector Characterization Measurement Services SUNNYVALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- April 14, 2004 -- GigaTest Labs (GTL Corp.), a leading independent engineering services firm, today announced the introduction of differential 4-port S-parameter measurement services for PCI Express and other high speed serial connectors. The PCI Express Connector Test Specification v.1.0 requires highly accurate differential S-parameter measurements to 10 GHz. GigaTest Labs uses Agilent Technologies' N1953A Physical Layer Test System to acquire the required S-parameters. This system provides the greatest accuracy and efficiency for measuring differential high-frequency performance of passive interconnects including the PCI Express Connector. GigaTest Labs' 14 years of extensive experience with signal integrity (SI) measurements and engineering services allows us to characterize these PCI Express connectors using a variety of techniques. Measurements can be made with a PCI-X connector test fixture similar to the specified fixture in the PCI-X specification. Furthermore, the test fixture itself can be individually measured for its differential performance, then "removed" from the measurements by de-embedding. This results in less uncertainty in the connector measurements, and improved confidence in the accuracy of the characterization. GigaTest Labs' techniques minimize uncertainty, by measuring all passive interconnects directly, and by using high-performance microwave probes. "GigaTest Labs pioneered the use of vector-network-analyzer-measurements for high speed digital interconnects. With the new tools like Agilent Technologies N1953A Physical Layer Test System, we can now apply our capabilities to differential components including the PCI-Express connector," said Tom Strouth, President and CEO of GigaTest Labs. "Agilent recognizes the need for accurate high speed measurements of the PCI-E physical layer and GigaTest's role in providing measurement expertise for customers who are developing PCI-E products. GigaTest's probing, fixturing, and measurement competence ensures accurate, traceable models and measurements at speeds up to 10 Gbits/sec," said Greg Peters, General Manager, Signal Integrity Operation, Agilent Technologies.
