CygNet Introduces Enhanced Version 6.5 of CygNet ETM Software Offering Advanced Services, Display Tools, Interface Engines & Utilities SAN ANTONIO, Texas --(Business Wire)-- April 14, 2004 -- CygNet Software, Inc. chose the opening of the Entelec Show today to introduce the enhanced Version 6.5 of its popular CygNet ETM(TM) Enterprise Transaction Management software for management and distribution of real-time production information for the oil and gas, pipeline, petrochemical, utilities and water and wastewater treatment industries. The new product release combines powerful new host services, enhancements to existing services, new display tools, new equipment interface engines (EIEs) and new utilities to streamline the management of real-time production resources and provide enterprise connectivity to them. Version 6.5 is being demonstrated in the CygNet booth (#424) at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center here, April 14-16. "This release incorporates many upgrades and changes that enhance performance, increase flexibility, reduce installation time and facilitate system maintenance over the life of a user's installation," explained Gary Wilson, CygNet Software Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Among the new host services is a Facility Service that provides a central repository for application facility information. This allows users to define facilities for any current CygNet ETM value service and to span multiple devices. Each facility can have up to 30 user-defined attributes and these, in turn, can be used for grouping facilities. "These capabilities enhance our human-machine interface (HMI) display generation for multiple facilities, allowing customers to define and manage their own groups of components and sites as well as simplify report generation," Wilson said. Another new addition is the Service Monitor, which allows system administrators to log events, collect history information, alarm on selected conditions, trend activity and produce electronic notifications. Service enhancements in the upgrade include certification of CygNet ETM to run on Windows XP (Professional Edition) and Windows Server 2003 (Standard Edition). "In addition, services now have the option to be run as Windows NT services, which eliminates the need to stop and start services when users log in and out on the host computers," Wilson added. The Master Scheduling Service has been enhanced with a new cyclic polling feature that enables the creation of more complex schedules by providing options for task duration and task restart. Schedules may also be created and executed within other schedules, eliminating the need to write custom scripts just to augment standard scheduling features. The CygNet HMI applications (CStudio and CVision) now have 12 new CygNet-aware ActiveX controls, including a grid control, a group navigation control, an LED bar and nine command controls -- such as switches, sliders, toggles, levers, rockers and panels -- for issuing command messages to remote devices. "The beauty of these new HMI features is that the grid and navigation controls, used with the new Facility Service, give screen designers of both large and small applications the ability to quickly create screen templates that require virtually no maintenance as the system grows," Wilson noted. "In addition, all the CStudio and CVision intrinsic controls now have the ability to hide themselves when their referenced tags don't exist in the selected facility for the screen. This removes unnecessary controls from screens when the selected facility doesn't have specific instrumentation or equipment -- which reduces the number of custom screens that need to be developed and maintained for the application." Eight new device-specific equipment interface engines have been created in Version 6.5 to provide support for new models of Amocam, Fisher RegFlo, Galvanic Gas Micro, Kimray, Mercury, Nuflo ECR, SCADAPack RealFlow and Total Flow devices, broadening the array of standardized interfaces to many alternative field or factory floor devices already provided in CygNet ETM. A new Group Hierarchy Manager utility is now available for users to quickly create tree structures for data contained in their CygNet system. "This gives users great flexibility to organize their equipment and data by geographic location of field devices, by areas of responsibility, by accounting conventions or all three," Wilson concluded. "Once these hierarchies have been established, they may be used to populate HMI screens and web pages or to generate reports. In essence, this utility allows our customers to group and manage all of their real-time information in whatever way best supports their business practices."
