Avaya IP Telephony Solutions for Small Businesses Named 'Best in Test' in Business Communications Review

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., April 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Avaya , a leading global provider of communications networks and services for businesses, today announced that its Internet protocol (IP) telephony solutions ranked Best-in-Test among small IP-PBXs in an April article in Business Communications Review (BCR) magazine, an industry-leading publication for enterprise telecommunications and network managers and information technology professionals.

The evaluation was conducted for BCR by Miercom, an independent product test center. The test was targeted to smaller networks that support 100 users or less.
Miercom ranked each company's solutions on six separate criteria categories: architecture, endpoints, management and administration, features and performance. Miercom ranked each company's solutions on six separate criteria: architecture, endpoints, management and administration, features and performance. The Avaya IP Office 403, which supports up to 100 combined analog and digital extensions, was measured against six competing small IP-PBX systems that typically support 100 and fewer lines. Avaya performed strongly in all categories, outperformed all competitors in both features and endpoints, and placed second in the area of performance. The Avaya IP Office 403 is part of the Avaya IP Office family of solutions that support up to 360 users.
For small and medium businesses, it's all about the features, and Avaya's IP telephony solutions should be considered by companies looking to use IP to help ensure a better bottom line, said Ed Mier, president of Miercom. Avaya not only delivers the most features, such as powerful integrated messaging and conferencing that enhance productivity and mobility, but it leads the market when it comes to offering the best variety of phones, including wireless and pc-based phone capabilities.
The broad set of applications in the Avaya IP Office led Avaya to its first place ranking by Miercom in the features category, and contributed to its Best in Test status. The authors noted that the Avaya IP Office comes with integrated voice mail, and a graphical user interface that gives users the ability to create various levels of call flows. Avaya also enables companies to route calls per user or per group, and a call recording feature allows creation of announcements, such as late openings or closings, from remote locations.
In ranking Avaya first for its advanced IP telephony features, Miercom called the Avaya IP Office family's contact center application outstanding. The contact center application, which supports from two to 75 agents, provides up to five supervision positions which have a real-time view into what's happening in the call center -- such as idle operators or calls in queue -- and has a unique feature called a wallboard, a small area on the screen on which the supervisor can send messages, make announcements, or broadcast information.
The authors also cited Avaya leadership in endpoints. The Avaya endpoints under test were the Avaya 4624 IP telephone, the Avaya 3616 and 3626 wireless phones, and Avaya IPhoneManager Pro softphone. The Avaya IP Office also supports five models of Avaya 4600 series of endpoints, seven models of Avaya digital phones and the Avaya IP Office SoftConsole.
Avaya was one of only three vendors which tested wireless phones. Miercom noted Avaya's wireless phones scored an outstanding 4.67 out of 5 points for voice quality, and referenced its IP Office SoftConsole, which has a centralized operator feature that allows one operator to handle multisite locations. The IPPhone Manager Pro softphone provides integration with popular contact management packages, such as Microsoft(R) Outlook, Goldmine(R), Act!(R), and Maximizer(TM), which enables screen pop-ups, simple incoming and call scripting and voice mail box control, and rounds out how Avaya showed in the endpoints category, the authors said.
The BCR 'Best in Test' underscores Avaya's strength in IP telephony for small and medium businesses, said Dave Johnson, group vice president, Small and Medium Business Solutions, Avaya. When a small or medium business chooses Avaya IP telephony solutions, it opens up a world of possibilities, such as monitoring contact center operations from a remote location. Businesses can choose either a migration path or a completely new installation to take advantage of those new applications, which are the same market-leading IP technologies Avaya brings to large enterprises.
Avaya IP Office, part of the Avaya family of communications hardware and software for small and medium businesses, is an all in one communication solution that brings together voice, data and communications applications. Designed for up to 360 users, the family of converged communications systems incorporates a wide range of voice and data features, such as built-in wireless LAN telephony capability, security, conferencing, contact center, messaging and automatic call answering capabilities, which can be customized depending on business needs. Avaya IP Office -- Small Office Edition, introduced recently, is a simple, desktop version of Avaya IP Office for up to 28 users.
