Popular 'VOTE for VoIP' Poll Expanded for Broadband World Forum

VENICE, Italy --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 21, 2004 -- Spirent Communications(TM), TOTAL TELECOM Magazine, and the IEC Encourage Global Broadband Community to Vote at Booth #1100

Spirent Communications (NYSE:SPM; LSE:SPT) will expand its popular "VOTE for VoIP" survey to gather international data about what the telecom industry really thinks about one of the hottest topics in telecom today.

At this year's Broadband World Forum, Spirent will team with TOTAL TELECOM Magazine and the International Engineering Consortium (IEC) to sponsor its simple industry survey designed to capture opinions on the reality of VoIP deployment.

The poll includes questions such as:

-- Is VoIP ready for widespread deployment in Europe?

-- Does your employer use VoIP technology today?

-- What are the three top obstacles to widespread VoIP adoption?

-- What will be the consequences of VoIP deployments in Europe?

Attendees can vote at computerized polling kiosks located at Spirent's booth (#1100). The poll can also be accessed on Spirent's website at www.spirentcom.com. Final survey results will be printed in the post-Broadband World Forum issue of TOTAL TELECOM Magazine.

"We work with our customers to help meet the service expectations widespread VoIP deployments demand," said Dave Gellerman, vice president of Marketing for Spirent's Service Assurance - Broadband unit. "The VoIP campaign is a fun way to gauge industry opinion on the pains and promises of VoIP. We launched the poll at SUPERCOMM 2004 in June and according to polltakers at the show, the VoIP revolution is well underway. We're interested to see if the international community agrees."

"As the migration to VoIP quickens, service providers are balancing the promises of value-added services and cost savings with the challenges of deployment and service delivery," said Rob Chambers, publisher of TOTAL TELECOM Magazine. "We are pleased to work with the IEC and Spirent to conduct a survey to call attention to the promises and realities of delivering VoIP."

"VoIP is changing the face of telecommunications for both carriers and consumers," said John Janowiak, senior director, IEC. "The topic is of key interest to attendees of Broadband World Forum. We're delighted to join Spirent and TOTAL TELECOM to conduct a survey that is bound to produce some insightful results."

For its part in the deployment of VoIP, Spirent offers the SmartSight portfolio to enable VoIP service providers to identify, diagnose and fix end-to-end service level issues from the customer premise to the network.
