Online Vehicle Renewal Even Better Than Before at www.Utah.gov

SALT LAKE CITY --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 7, 2004 -- Utahns Can Renew Vehicle Registrations at Any Time of Day or Night -- from the Comfort of Their Own Homes

Utahns now have one more reason to use the state's most popular online government service -- it's better than ever before. Utah drivers will now see a new, user-friendly design when they renew their vehicle registrations with Renewal Express, which can be found online at www.Utah.gov, the state's official Web site.

Thanks to this new redesign, Renewal Express is now even easier to use. For example, in the new version of the system, online forms are pre-populated with address and other information once the plate number and PIN are entered. Features like this save users more time than ever.

"This online service is the fastest and easiest way to renew a vehicle's registration," said Governor Olene Walker. "I hope this recent news will provide an additional incentive for the public to take advantage of Renewal Express."

For four years, Renewal Express has been Utah's most popular citizen eGovernment service. Since its launch in September 2000, more than 700,000 people in Utah have renewed their vehicle registrations over the Internet, and the percentage of citizens who choose to use the online option continues to increase each month. The online application currently processes more than 25,000 renewals a month, making it one of the most widely used eGovernment services of its kind in the nation.

"Our goal is to bring increasing convenience to Utahns by offering many government services online," the Utah State Tax Commission commented. "Renewal Express was already very popular, but we are happy to announce that we've found a way to make it even easier to use."

The online service allows Utah citizens to completely renew automobile, watercraft and off-road vehicle registrations 24 hours a day and seven days a week, without ever leaving home, and at no additional cost. Renewal Express accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express payments through Utah.gov's secure payment server. The service also allows citizens to print an immediate temporary permit, even for vehicle registrations that have expired. Permanent registration decals are mailed within ten days of completing the online process.

Citizens and business owners alike benefit from the convenience of Renewal Express. Utahn Russell Daly has this to say about Renewal Express: "It is so much more convenient to do it online...please keep up this great service!"

Stephanie Pappas, owner of Roofers Supply in Salt Lake City, uses the online service to renew registrations on her fleet of vehicles. "Before Renewal Express, I either had to go do the renewals myself or pay a helper to go and wait in line and do the renewals for me. I have a fleet of approximately 30 vehicles that I can now renew online and...I've saved so much time and money!"
