Kelkea Announces Real-Time Anti-spam 'Zombie-Killer' Service

SAN JOSE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Oct. 7, 2004 -- Kelkea, Inc., the leading provider of dynamic IP blocking solutions that stop spam at the source, announced the Kelkea Anti-spam Service(SM) that identifies in real-time, spammer controlled zombie machines. The Kelkea Anti-spam Service enables ISPs and enterprises to quickly identify and shut down spamming sessions while they are in progress, before they have an opportunity to overwhelm mission critical message systems.

Spam currently comprises more than 80% of all email traffic, up from 60% earlier this year. This alarming growth has made spam a threat to network and enterprise security, it threatens to take down messaging systems around the world. IT organizations are spending millions to stay ahead of the growth and keep their mission critical messaging systems running. The most recent tactic in use by spammers is large armies of zombie machines to send their messages. Each attack utilizes waves of randomized groups of zombies, resulting in millions of emails being sent in a very short amount of time. The short-lived and dynamic nature of these attacks makes them very difficult to identify and stop.

"The most effective solution to stopping spammers is to stop them at the source, to block their messages even before they are sent. We have developed a real-time solution for identifying and stopping spammer controlled zombie machines," stated Dave Rand, founder and CEO of Kelkea. "While this is effective today, we recognize that as anti-spam systems evolve, the spammers quickly adapt their methods and scale their attacks. We continuously monitor their tactics and are designing solutions to thwart their latest efforts."

The Kelkea Anti-spam Service incorporates the MAPS RBL+(R) Master Service and Kelkea's dynamic IP blocking solution to identify and stop spammers while they are in process of sending their messages. This service uses a combination of heuristics, algorithms and real-time monitoring to determine spam sources and then leverages the existing knowledge base and processes established by MAPS to document and track spam. Because all instances of spam are tracked and a history of the abuse is kept, the result is the industry's most reliable reputation management service. Many of the largest ISP's in the world recognize this and use our services as an integral part of their spam fighting efforts.

About Kelkea, Inc.

Kelkea was formed by Dave Rand in early 2004 to develop and market real-time dynamic anti-spam solutions which stop spam at its source. In order to build a complete reputation service, in July 2004 Kelkea purchased certain assets, including all of the intellectual property and brand names of Mail Abuse Prevention System, LLC (MAPS), a company co-founded by Rand in 1996. Kelkea now offers the most reliable reputation management services and is leveraging them to continue to develop standards and solutions for stopping the flow of unsolicited mail across the Internet.

Currently, Kelkea has over 1500 customers using both the new services and MAPS' solutions to stop spam and reduce IT, infrastructure and lost productivity costs. Some of our ISP and Enterprise customers include: AOL, Roadrunner/Time Warner, Yahoo, Hotwire, PepsiCo, Carnegie Mellon, US Air Force, British Telecom, Southwestern Bell (SBC), Telstra and Charter Communication. RBL+ is registered service marks of Kelkea. Kelkea and Kelkea Anti-spam Service are proprietary marks of Kelkea. All other company names and marks may be trademarks of the respective companies with which they are associated.
