Language Weaver Announces General Availability of Version 2.4 Upgraded Statistical Machine Translation Software

LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 29, 2004 -- Significant Upgrades Create Greater Functionality and Customization Capabilities for Users

Language Weaver, Inc., a software company developing statistical machine translation software (SMTS) for the automation of human language translation, today announced general availability of its application software upgraded to version 2.4. The significant improvements in this version provide greater functionality for users, as well as more flexibility and the ability to customize additional options for developers and integrators.

New or improved features include:

-- User Dictionary support that enables users to create dictionaries containing customized translations for words and phrases

-- Web Services (SOAP) API enables programmers to create client applications using multiple programming languages for multiple target platforms -- includes interoperability with C++, .Net and Java

-- Translation Server may now be started as a Windows Service

-- Optional user authentication implemented using HTTP Basic Authentication via Apache

-- Overall smaller memory footprint

Dr. Daniel Marcu, a founder and the COO of Language Weaver, said: "In our quest to provide, not only the best quality automated translation, but also an excellent user experience, it is important to us to be responsive to our customers' requests. While we had always planned on user dictionary support, adding a Web services interface and the ability to start the system as a Windows service meets with their requests and continues to affirm our dedication to improving the product."

Language Weaver has upgraded all language pairs to be compatible with the new application software. Those customers upgrading from a previous version will need to replace their language pair CDs, which are available from Language Weaver at no additional charge.

Language Weaver's SMTS offers a significant departure from traditional rule-based machine translation systems by producing fluent, natural sounding translations. By learning automatically from existing translated documents, this advanced technology reviews previously unseen text and translates it from language to language using statistical algorithms to produce the highest probability output. Language Weaver's SMTS technology can save customers money and time through automation of the translation process, with the ability to translate in less than five minutes the quantity of material that could take a human translator more than a day to produce.

About Language Weaver, Inc.

Language Weaver was founded in 2002 to commercialize a unique approach to automatic language translation using proprietary statistical translation algorithms that resulted from 20 person-years of invention and development at the University of Southern California's Information Sciences Institute (USC/ISI). Its resulting product, statistical machine translation software, provides the highest quality output to date from machine translation. The company has 15 patents pending on its SMTS technology. Bidirectional language pairs available include: Arabic/English, Chinese/English, French/English, and Spanish/English; unidirectional languages include Somali to English and Hindi to English, with others coming soon. Language Weaver's software is available as licensed software in client server and stand-alone versions. Website: www.languageweaver.com.
