Ixia Deploys Test Platform Across Government Network for ``Moonv6'' IPv6 Interoperability and Test Project

CALABASAS, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 29, 2004 -- IxChariot(TM) Predicts Performance Under Realistic Load Conditions For the World's Largest Multi-Vendor IPv6 Test Bed

Ixia (Nasdaq:XXIA), a leading, global provider of IP network testing solutions, announced that its IxChariot application testing solution is deployed at several government locations creating a real-world test scenario by transmitting VoIP traffic and QoS mechanisms within the "Moonv6" IPv6 network.

"The goal of the DoD is to be compliant with IPv6 by FY 2008," said Capt. Dan Millane of the JITC. "The Moonv6 objective is to define the technology and construct a fundamental end-to-end, real-world distributed model to test the validity of IPv6 within a core network infrastructure."

The Moonv6 network is the world's largest multi-vendor IPv6 network, stretching from New Hampshire to California, and is a global collaboration between industry leaders, the North American IPv6 Task Force (NAv6TF), the UNH-IOL, Internet2, and U.S. governmental agencies. This latest round of Moonv6 tests focus on voice, wireless, firewalls and a host of advanced network and application-layer tests.

Ixia's IxChariot is the exclusive tool used to stage real world IPv6 application layer traffic throughout the interoperability and conformance test bed of this new round of tests for "Moonv6." Specifically, IxChariot is used to examine the reliability, functionality, and scalability of this nation-wide IPv6 Network.

The IxChariot console is controlled from Fort Huachuca, Arizona, which drives real-world application traffic across the Moonv6 network to accurately assess network performance throughout the Moonv6 network, while simultaneously spanning multiple remote locations of IxChariot endpoints. This testing infrastructure provides each network participant the ability to confidently gauge the expected performance characteristics of applications running across the Moonv6 network by emulating protocols under real world load conditions. These locations include the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) at Fort Huachuca AZ, SPAWAR in Charleston SC, UNH-IOL in Durham NH, Marine Corps Network and Security Command in Quantico VA, and Ixia's headquarters in Calabasas.

Ixia's unique hardware/software IPv6 test platform integrates the company's wire-speed traffic generation hardware with IxChariot to assess peak network and device performance. IxChariot provides the ability to confidently predict the expected performance characteristics of any application running over this immense IPv6 network. This cutting edge testing addresses aspects and benefits of the IPv6 protocol that are key to widespread deployment of the new IPv6 technology, and the new applications and devices that will utilize that technology.

About Moonv6

The Moonv6 project is a collaborative effort between the North American IPv6 Task Force, (NAv6TF), the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), Internet2, the Joint Interoperability Testing Command (JITC) and various other U.S. Defense Department agencies. Taking place across the United States at multiple locations, the Moonv6 project represents the most aggressive collaborative IPv6 interoperability and application demonstration event in the North American market to date.
