Mindspeed Deploys 43 Million VoIP Ports Worldwide; Company on Track to Gain 50 Percent of VoIP Media Gateway Market in 2004

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 18, 2004 -- Mindspeed(R) Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that its voice-over-IP (VoIP) processing technology has been deployed in 43 million ports worldwide. An early VoIP pioneer, Mindspeed has shipped a total of 12 million system-on-chip voice and data solutions integrating multiple digital signal processors (DSPs), packet processors, and software to provide its networking equipment customers with complete VoIP and data communications systems solutions.

According to a new VoIP market research report released this week by IDC, "Worldwide VoIP Semiconductor Forecast and Analysis, 2003 - 2008," Mindspeed is on track to capture fifty percent of the VoIP media gateway market in 2004, up from approximately fifteen percent last year.

"Service providers worldwide are deploying high-density media gateways in a major push to lower the costs of voice transport," said Sean Lavey, program manager for IDC. "Mindspeed is a strong chip supplier in this market with its Comcerto(TM) Series VoIP processors offering a highly integrated system-on-chip approach that combines multiple DSP voice engines with carrier-class voice software. We find the company's ability to provide lower total systems costs and reduce board real estate requirements has enabled it to garner significant traction within many top OEM accounts."

"We are very pleased at the rapid market acceptance of our Comcerto VoIP solutions," said Tom Medrek, senior vice president and general manager of Mindspeed's multiservice access business unit. "The Comcerto family is the culmination of five generations of DSP processor development and system-on-chip integration, with a proven software suite that provides our equipment customers with an unmatched design flexibility and time-to-market advantage."

The Comcerto processor family offers complete VoIP solutions, from converged voice and virtual private network routing for enterprises up to the highest density multi-standard carrier network applications.

The Comcerto architecture is optimized for VoIP applications with separate control plane and data-path processors, and a software suite enhanced and hardened over multiple generations. Each device is pin- and software-compatible, allowing equipment manufacturers to seamlessly migrate to achieve the optimum level of performance and integration with minimal system development time.
