AC Technology Debuts BiObex, a Revolutionary Multi-Biometric System That Sets the Standard for Security and Performance DULLES, Va. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 17, 2004 -- A Systems Approach that Delivers Groundbreaking Speed and AccuracyAC Technology, Inc. today debuted a revolutionary new multi-biometric technology designed to offer unprecedented protection in today's atmosphere of increased security threats. The name BiObex TM, derived from a combination of the Greek and Latin forms of "biometric barricade", is an accurate depiction of the technology's ability to restrict, authenticate, manage and control user access. BiObex serves as the architectural middleware for managing and administering multiple biometrics using the same platform for management, reporting, and security profiles. BiObex supports the fusion of fingerprint and 3D facial recognition technology, offers interoperability regardless of environment or platform, and delivers superior performance and reliability. AC Technology commissioned Cybula, Ltd., recognized for its development in 3D modeling and identification. Cybula developed and produced the camera technology, FaceEnforce TM (the 3D to 3D and 3D to 2D matching algorithms), and the unique Presence II processor board utilized in the 3D facial recognition system. The two companies, in conjunction with Advanced Biometric Controls, LLC, have produced a state-of-the-art security solution -- BiObex TM and FaceEnforce TM -- integrated into one, independent, interoperable and open system architecture. Together, the companies have not only successfully developed a system with groundbreaking performance, scalability and reliability, but have also defined a systems approach to "fusion biometrics" that allows system integrators and end users to define, configure, integrate, and implement the use of multiple biometrics in existing mission critical security infrastructures. "We have taken an 'open and total systems' approach to authentication and identity management", said Christopher Sands, AC Technology's President and Chief Executive Officer. "As an example, many biometric systems authenticate the user to a particular device, whereas BiObex authenticates the user, the sensor, and the terminal to the network. This netcentric approach to logical access, as well as an unprecedented random challenge and response feature, further tighten security. Also, BiObex is an open, standards based architecture for interoperability and scalability. BiObex provides the management software and architecture to incorporate solutions, regardless of which vendor an organization chooses to use." The first release of both FaceEnforce and BiObex are now available on Sun Solaris(R), Linux and Microsoft Windows(R). In addition, BiObex is available on Trusted Solaris(R). The solution is designed to meet large-scale deployments for the U.S. Department of Defense, Homeland Security, Federal, State and Local governments, as well as global commercial infrastructures. The biometric system also supports wireless, satellite, SunRay(R) Ultra Thin Client and ruggedized deployable system implementations. Another strategic partner, Sun Microsystems, Inc. has integrated BiObex into its Secure Network Access Platform Reference Architecture for authentication and access control. "BiObex provides a means of uniquely identifying an individual and tightly controlling desktop access across the enterprise to provide enhanced levels of security for information assurance," said Clark Masters, Executive Vice President of Industry Sales and President of Sun Microsystems Federal, Inc. AC Technology has several pilots in place with the U.S. Department of Defense, and the U.S. Intelligence Community. BiObex is available for demonstration at AC Technology's headquarters in Dulles, Virginia as well as at the Sun Microsystems iForce Ready Center in McLean Virginia and Executive Briefing Center in Menlo Park, California. Several other pilots are commencing with civilian agencies and systems integrators. About AC Technology, Inc.
