David Hagan Elevated to President and CEO of Boingo Wireless

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Boingo Wireless today announced that Boingo's founder, Sky Dayton, and the rest of the company's board of directors have named David Hagan chief executive officer. Hagan takes over the role from Dayton, who remains active with the company as chairman of the board. Hagan previously was Boingo's president and chief operating officer.

Hagan assumes day-to-day operations of the company and adds organizational responsibilities for the office of the chief technology officer, corporate counsel and finance and administration to his previous responsibilities. He also joins Boingo's board of directors.
The promotion is part of a planned progression and allows Dayton to continue to focus on strategy and on working with key partners to evangelize the promise of broadband wireless and Boingo's global roaming system.
"For the past three years, Dave and I have built Boingo into a market leader, and in the process, pioneered an industry," Dayton said. "When we set out, Wi-Fi was just a concept, and now it's a global phenomenon. By making this change, the board is acknowledging the great contribution Dave has made to Boingo while at the same time focusing both of our efforts on the things we do best."
"Since Sky founded the company, Boingo's mission has been to make wireless Internet access ubiquitous and easy to use," Hagan said. "Over the past three years, we have brought the fragmented world of Wi-Fi together into a single roaming system with over 12,000 locations. Our challenge now is to continue to grow this network while incorporating 3G services and making the whole system available on emerging non-PC wireless devices. We have the right team in place to make this happen and I'm honored to be able to lead them."
Hagan joined Boingo three years ago as president and last year added the COO role. During his career, he has served as division president and executive vice president for Sprint, where he was responsible for launching the consumer business under the Sprint Canada brand, which grew to be a $600 million business, the largest alternative long distance company in Canada. Hagan was also responsible for launching an ISP service in Canada under the Sprint brand, called The Most Online, which was the second largest ISP in Canada.
He's also served as CEO for FirstSource Corp. and as the President/Chief Operating Officer of Ticketmaster Online CitySearch. Hagan holds an MBA from Baker University as well as a BS from the University of Kansas.
