SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 16, 2004 --

Adaptus Imaging Technology platform plays key role in contract win

Hand Held Products, Inc., a leader in image-based mobile data collection solutions, has been selected by Intermec Technologies Corp. to help deliver greater logistical efficiencies within all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Over the next five years, Intermec Technologies will use Hand Held Products' Adaptus(TM) Imaging Technology platform to deliver superior bar code reading and image capture capabilities as part of the Automatic Identification Technology contract (AIT-III, W91QUZ-04-D-0009) recently awarded by the U.S. Army's Product Manager, Joint-Automatic Identification Technology (PM J-AIT) office.

The AIT-III initiative is designed to provide timely asset visibility in the Department's global logistics pipeline, whether in process, in storage or in transit. Intermec will supply a complete line of advanced mobile computing, wireless communications and data collection systems and services, all engineered to meet the most demanding military applications and deliver unparalleled levels of efficiency and productivity.

Hand Held Products could deliver more than 60,000 image engines for integration in Intermec portable data terminals and Hand Held Products IMAGETEAM(TM) 4800 2D Industrial Hand Held imagers.

Powered by HHP's exclusive Adaptus(TM) Imaging Technology, the IT 4800 Industrial 2D Imager delivers extraordinary reading performance, versatility, and ease-of-use. Housed in a highly durable package, the IT 4800 reads linear, 2D, and PDF bar codes, captures digital images and signatures for proof of delivery and condition, and reads bar codes omni-directionally.

"We are very pleased that Intermec has chosen Hand Held Products as the technology and hardware provider in supporting the military's mission critical requirements. Hand Held Products has had a long-standing business relationship with Intermec and we view them as a key strategic partner," stated Kevin Jost, President and CEO, Hand Held Products. "In addition to superior durability characteristics, our Adaptus Imaging Technology platform will help Intermec deliver an incredibly versatile and flexible data collection solution."
