NETGEAR(R) Unveils First Available 108 Mbps Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NETGEAR(R), Inc. , a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today unveiled the latest addition to its award-winning line of 108 Mbps wireless products, the 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router (DG834GT). This 802.11g and Super G(TM) wireless router combines five functions in a single box -- ADSL2+ modem, router, 10/100 LAN switch, SPI Double Firewall, and 108 Mbps Super G wireless access point -- adding considerable power and flexibility to a home or small office network.

The 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router (DG834GT) gives homes and small businesses untethered continuous connectivity to network resources and the Internet and enables users to share broadband access with all the computers on the network, either wirelessly or using Ethernet cables. Featuring high-speed 802.11g and Super G wireless capability - up to ten times faster than the commonly used 802.11b - users can download large files, video conference, and distribute and play high-quality digital movies, byte-hungry photos, and smooth MP3s and digital movie streams at long range, all in the blink of an eye.
"Our '5 in 1' gateways, of which the 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router is the newest, offer high performance, convenient, all-in-one networking. They stand out for their flexibility as they're appropriate for the home and office and enable a wired network or a wireless one," said David A. James, NETGEAR's Director of Product Management for Broadband Services. "In Europe and Asia, where ADSL adoption is more widespread than in the U.S., our current generation of gateways has enjoyed significant market penetration. We believe our customers will appreciate the advantages of the super-fast speed and extended range of the new 108 Mbps Super Wireless Router, which supports the higher-bandwidth applications becoming so prevalent for both work and entertainment."
The 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router is compatible with products based on the widely used 802.11b standard as well as the newer 54 Mbps 802.11g and Super G devices. With free firmware soon to be available to upgrade the built-in modem to ADSL2+ this complete solution furnishes direct, always-on Internet connectivity and multi-user access sharing at speeds up to 140 times faster than dial-up. This powerful router distributes MP3s, digital movies and photos with ultra-fast 10/100 switched LAN ports capable of speeds of 200 Mbps, and shares a single IP address with up to 253 users.
Like NETGEAR's other products, this router is virtually hassle-free. There's no need for a separate modem as the unit connects directly into an ADSL line. Its built-in Port Forwarding settings, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP(TM)), and Virtual Private Network (VPN) pass-through make it simple to play Internet games, send instant messages, and host Internet services. The user interface is offered in four languages -- English, French, German or Italian. The 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router also supports PCs, Macintosh(R), and virtually all Ethernet devices, and even comes with a free Ethernet cable for connecting the first computer.
Security doesn't pose a challenge for the 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router (DG834GT). Its True Firewall uses Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI) with Intrusion Control featuring Denial of Service protection from hacker attacks. VPN pass-through permits secure access to the user's office or corporate network and enables the user to host VPN services. Content filtering means that the user can control access to inappropriate web sites and limit usage by time of day. The Router also logs browsing activities and provides optional e-mail alerts so users can monitor access. DMZ support allows unrestricted access from the Internet to one computer for hosting web services.
In addition to the new 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router (DG834GT), NETGEAR's award-wining 108 Mbps product family currently includes:
* 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router (WGT624)
* 108 Mbps Wireless Storage Router (WGT634U)
* 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card (WG511T)
* 108 Mbps Desktop PC PCI Adapter (WG311T)
* 108 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (WG111T)

The NETGEAR 108 Mbps Super Wireless ADSL Modem Router (DG834GT) is backed by a two-year warranty and 24/7 technical support. It's available this month through leading retailers, direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and value-added resellers in Europe, Australia and Asia.
