GarageTek Inks First International Franchise Deal; Opens for Business in Canada
SYOSSET, N.Y. --(Business Wire)-- Nov. 11, 2004 -- GarageTek, Inc., the market leader in professionally designed and installed garage organization and storage systems, announced today that is has signed a licensing arrangement with Canadian Garage Systems, Inc., to introduce GarageTek(R) throughout Canada. Canada was the obvious first step to the international introduction of this ground-breaking home improvement product, according to Marc Shuman, founder and President of GarageTek. The company has long-standing vendor relationships in Canada and will target the upper income levels of the approximately 8 million existing single family homes and townhouses. Canadian Garage Systems, Inc., the licensed Canadian distributor for GarageTek, will begin its launch in Vancouver, British Columbia (B.C.), specifically the Lower Mainland, the Okanagan and Vancouver Island. Vancouver, the host of 2010 winter Olympics, is forecasted to grow 4.1%, the highest rate in Canada.
Headquartered in Syosset, New York, GarageTek has transformed thousands of garages in the United States since it was incorporated in January 2000 and began franchise sales in March 2001. Currently, the company offers its innovative products in 67 domestic markets in addition to Canada. The company was the first to tap the tremendous potential for garage organization with 65 million existing U.S. garages and 1+ million new homes built each year. Recently, GarageTek's leadership position was recognized by Building Products magazine as one of the best new home options for 2004 and by both Money and Entrepreneur magazines as one of the hottest franchises.
"GarageTek revolutionized the home improvement industry with the concept of paneling the interior of a garage and we're thrilled to introduce Canadians to the world's cleanest garage," says David Slader, president of Canadian Garage Systems, Inc. The Canadian introduction of GarageTek will progress from British Columbia to Ontario, Alberta and Quebec, according to Slader. As is the philosophy in the U.S., the company will market direct to the homeowner as well as through the single-family and multi-family luxury homebuilder. Both in 2002 and 2003, there were in excess of 200,000 new homes built across Canada, predominately in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta. "The initial acceptance from builders has been outstanding," added Slader.
"Practically since our launch, we have been receiving requests to become GarageTek franchisees from entities around the globe. Over the last two years, we've seen increasing consumer interest from Canada in the GarageTek system," said Shuman. "We're confident David and his team understand the Canadian market and will provide all the customer service and quality installation which has become a hallmark of GarageTek. We anticipate the Canadian market to provide solid growth for us," added Shuman. GarageTek anticipates additional international launches in 2005.
