NTS Selection Makes Ember Chip Platform the Golden Suite for IEEE 802.15.4 Interoperability

BOSTON --(Business Wire)-- May 25, 2004 -- Testing and benchmarking giant chooses Ember as test bench for standards compliance, performance and interoperability

Testing and quality assurance giant National Technical Systems, Inc. (NTS) today chose Ember Corporation's 802.15.4 compliant and ZigBee(TM) ready hardware platform as its standard for evaluating wireless mesh networking products. This designation means Ember will set the performance, interoperability and compliance thresholds for all hardware and software built to take advantage of emerging wireless technologies such as ZigBee.

"Ember was a solid choice for us because they are far ahead of the industry in having a production-ready chip, networking software, development tools and years of wireless mesh networking experience in low-cost, low data rate applications. We need a stable, mature test bench that spans hardware and software, and that's what we found in Ember's product offering," said Osman Sakr, NTS' division president, computer products testing labs.

"NTS had their choice of any company in the market, but they selected Ember because of our technology's quality, our stability as a company and the fact that we are production ready," said Ember CEO Jeff Grammer. "We're looking forward to working with them to provide solid benchmarks and performance standards that speed the adoption of wireless mesh networking in every industry."

Ember-enabled wireless mesh networks manage lighting, temperature and security in business and industrial facilities; monitor and operate industrial devices; detect wear and tear on physical infrastructure such as roads and bridges; and support mobile applications such as temperature and humidity monitoring for preventing fresh food spoilage. They replace expensive, inflexible wired networks with self-healing and configuring wireless networks based on low-cost sensor modules.

"Our selection by NTS is a clear message to potential customers that Ember is a no-risk choice for embedded wireless mesh networking technology," said Ember Vice President of Marketing Venkat Bahl.
