Bentley Joins IBM Global Services Team to Create Texas Crash Information System ORLANDO, Fla. --(Business Wire)-- May 24, 2004 -- Bentley Systems, Incorporated, today announced it is a member of the IBM Global Services team selected by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to create the Texas Crash Records Information System (CRIS).CRIS will provide state agencies with information-rich, online highway maps. In generating these maps, the system will normalize accident location data from multiple sources, layer the maps with related safety data such as traffic violations, and serve the maps through a single Web interface. Using CRIS, TxDOT can identify and document accident-prone roadway segments, as required for federal funding of safety improvements. With these online maps, Texas DPS and local law enforcement agencies can more effectively identify dangerous spots and take safety measures such as regrading roads, adjusting speed limits, or changing signage. The system's goal is to reduce injuries, deaths, and property damage on the roadways of Texas. Bentley Location Data Manager Express (LDMx) will be the linear referencing technology underlying the Texas system. LDMx solves the problem of normalizing accident location data from various sources--each state and local agency may use its own linear referencing method. Also, by establishing a common spatial reference, LDMx allows additional data to be mapped accurately and easily.
