Greenfield Networks Delivers Industry's First Edge Chassis With Full IPv6 Support

NETWORLD + INTEROP, LAS VEGAS, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Greenfield Networks, the emerging leader in world-class Ethernet switch silicon technology, today announced the GH6000, the industry's first edge chassis with full IPv6 support. Using the standard ATCA (Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture) chassis and built using the Packetry(TM) family of Ethernet switch silicon, the Greenfield Networks reference design platform features 128 Gigabit Ethernet ports in only 5 RU.

"I'm impressed with Greenfield Networks' vision and execution. The GH6000 is a high performance cost effective system deployed on the ATCA standard platform," said John G. Metz, principal analyst, Metz International (Harvard, MA). "We believe it's only a matter of time before ATCA will move beyond telecom equipment into high volume enterprise networking applications -- Greenfield will be well positioned to capitalize on this lucrative market."
The GH6000 is available today, and will be shown this week in the Greenfield Networks suite at the Las Vegas Hilton, in conjunction with NetWorld + Interop at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Interested customers or media can contact Greenfield to arrange a meeting.
GH6000 Reference Design
The GH6000 is in standard ATCA, and its 128 GE ports make it the densest GE chassis in its class. Fully compliant with ATCA specifications, the GH6000 includes a supervisor engine that delivers all the management and control functions as well as low-cost Gigabit linecards featuring 32 GE ports.
The GH6000 reference design supports control plane software from multiple third party vendors, featuring a variety of layer 2 and layer 3 protocols such as STP, RIP, OSPF, BGP and PIM. In addition, the GH6000 supports a variety of IPv6 routing protocols such as RIPng and OSPFv3 as well as MPLS protocols such as LDP.
"Greenfield has taken a system-level approach to the development of our Packetry solutions, including complete reference design systems, production ready APIs, integrated 3rd party control plane software, and comprehensive hardware support packages," said Kamran Torabi, vice president, engineering and co-founder of Greenfield Networks. "The GH6000 is another great example of our commitment to speed our customers' time to market."
Packetry Architecture
Greenfield's Packetry family provides a unique architecture for scaling performance from edge to core applications. It is the only merchant silicon in the industry to offer the combination of low-cost Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and rich features, such as full IPv6 routing, MPLS switching, scalable packet buffering, and scalable MAC, route and classification tables. Enabling the next-generation metro edge deployments, the Packetry family supports extensive service provider features including MPLS switching, stacked VLANs, Layer 2 VPN (martini and VPLS), Layer 3 VPN (RFC 2547bis) and IP tunneling.
The Packetry family supports extensive Quality of Service features -- including large and scalable packet classification tables, per port or flow rate limiting and per queue traffic shaping, allowing fine grain control over the bandwidth provided to flows or traffic classes. The Packetry architecture also supports advanced and scalable access control list (ACL) capabilities that help secure and segment sensitive traffic or network access. It enables configuring classification or filtering policies based on layer 2/3/4 packet headers.
