Prosero Evaluates Procurement Outsourcing Models at Sourcing Interests Group Conference

HOUSTON --(Business Wire)-- May 6, 2004 -- Prosero President and CEO Larry Hall evaluated current approaches to the burgeoning procurement business process outsourcing (BPO) market Thursday at the Sourcing Interests Group conference in Houston.

Based in Atlanta, Prosero, is a nationally recognized leader in procurement outsourcing solutions that enable companies in a wide range of industries to increase the amount of spend under management without adding headcount or investing in technology.

In his speech, "Alternative Delivery Models for Procurement BPO," Hall explored three models for procurement outsourcing, including the use of a hosting provider for procurement technology, the total transfer of procurement resources to a third party and the outsourcing of select portfolios of spend.

"Procurement outsourcing models today vary based on the amount of control, resources and time that an organization can commit to its procurement practices," Hall noted. "Clearly, procurement business process outsourcing has gained rapid acceptance as a way to help companies gain efficiency and cost savings across the enterprise."

Hall cited several recent studies indicating increased outsourcing of procurement functions, including a 2004 report from Aberdeen Group that expects the number of enterprises outsourcing procurement will more than double by 2008. He outlined considerations and expected results for each model and described the corporate needs that each fulfills.

"Companies that consider sourcing a core competency may only need assistance in managing their e-sourcing and e-procurement technologies. Other companies that require dramatic change and more complete transformation would benefit from a total turnover of procurement operations to a third party," Hall said.

"Prosero's outsourcing model represents an alternative for companies that want their existing procurement organizations to heighten their focus on core business processes, yet still enjoy the substantial savings captured by sourcing and managing a broader range of spend categories. We continue to see an increasing number of companies that seek a partner to assist in tackling the hard, behind the scenes jobs of driving internal compliance, managing supplier performance and providing the process and systems integration work necessary to actually achieve savings. These jobs require specialized skills and knowledge of change management processes as well a passion for results."

"Sourcing 2004" is being hosted by the Sourcing Interests Group May 4-7 at the Hilton Americas in Houston.
