Project Management Benchmarking Forum to Address Best Practices in Assessing Project Manager Competency

HAVERTOWN, Pa. --(Business Wire)-- May 3, 2004 --

Project Management Executives to Focus on Identifying, Selecting, and Developing Project Managers with the Highest Potential for Success

Why evaluate project manager competency? How can an organization identify individuals who are, or have the potential to become, superior project managers? What is needed in the way of coaching and development to raise performance?

These questions and more will be answered at PM Solutions' Center for Business Practices 2004 Project Management Benchmarking Forum, "Assessing Project Manager Competency: Best Practices in Assessing Potential and Developing Superior Project Managers" (June 3-4, Hyatt Regency O'Hare, Chicago, IL). This Forum differs from traditional conferences in that brief presentations by experts are used to direct knowledge sharing among the attendees through facilitated discussions.

Discussions will show how leading organizations are identifying:

-- The potential of employees - which leads to more effective project manager training and development programs; and

-- Prospective hires' strengths and weaknesses - leading to more effective recruitment of project managers

James S. Pennypacker, director of the Center for Business Practices (CBP), will host the Forum and present the latest research on project manager competency. Dr. Harold Weinstein, COO of Caliper Corporation, will discuss how organizations assess project manager competency to select and develop employees with the potential to be superior project managers. Dr. Jimmie West, Dean of the PM College and head of their project manager competency assessment program, will present best practices on assessing project manager competency and developing appropriate training and professional development programs based on those assessments.

"The ability to identify project manager candidates with superior potential is recognized more and more as the single most critical element of project success," said Pennypacker. "Attendees will leave this forum with a clear understanding of project manager competency best practices, and how they can leverage a formal competency program to ensure that the right project managers are in place to return maximum value on the project investment."

The cost for the two-day forum is $795. This fee includes a one-year membership in the CBP Benchmarking Consortium, an online knowledge center that provides access to all the CBP's publications, best practices, and primary research (a $495 value).
