Digeo Announces 'Moxi Mate' $79 Second-TV Media Center

NEW ORLEANS, THE NATIONAL SHOW (NCTA) and KIRKLAND, Wash., May 3
/PRNewswire/ -- Digeo, Inc. today announced the Moxi(TM) Mate, a $79 device that enables consumers to enjoy full access to all of their media center features and content (i.e. DVR, VOD, PPV, DVD, music, photos) on a second TV in the home. By deploying the Moxi Mate using existing coaxial cable in the home, cable operators can extend the reach of DVR and digital entertainment services throughout the home at the lowest industry cost.
Unique Architecture Enables Cost Breakthrough for Multi-TV Networking
The Moxi Mate is a thin-client device that works in conjunction with the multi-room enabled Motorola BMC9022 to deliver media center functionality to two TVs. Digeo's Media Center architecture enables the combination of the Motorola BMC9022 and the low-cost $79 Moxi Mate to provide the most cost-effective way for cable operators to deliver full DVR and media center services to multiple rooms in the home.
Through Digeo's innovative Moxi Media Channel, high-quality video and stereo audio is broadcast from the main media center to the Moxi Mate using the existing cable wiring in the home without disruption to existing cable and data services and without requiring the installation of Ethernet or wireless networking. All live programming, Moxi Menu features and recorded content is accessible on both TVs simultaneously and recordings can be set and managed from either TV.
High Consumer Demand for DVR on Multiple TVs
Two-TV media centers extend the reach of cable DVR and digital entertainment services throughout the home. Consumer research indicates strong demand for DVR functionality on multiple TVs in the home. According to a survey conducted by the DVR Monitor, 74% of consumers with DVR indicated that they want DVR on more than one TV (DVR Monitor, Fall 2002).
"We've listened to our cable partners who have asked for a low-cost solution to meet the strong consumer demand for DVR on multiple TVs and seen our early consumer trials demonstrate a desire for multi-TV DVR solutions in the home," said Jim Billmaier, Chief Executive Officer of Digeo. "The Moxi Mate provides a dramatic price breakthrough for both cable operators and subscribers to deliver advanced cable services to multiple TVs."
Moxi Mate Delivers Ultimate Consumer Experience
Unlike other multi-TV DVR solutions which use a standard digital set-top in the second room, Moxi Mate delivers an identical full DVR experience in the second room including the ability to set and manage recordings, and pause live TV. In addition to full DVR, the Moxi Mate provides the ability to access and manage all entertainment and media content stored on the Motorola BMC (Jukebox, Games, DVD and more) from another room. The two devices communicate over the coaxial cable wiring already in the home. Consumers using the Moxi Mate can enjoy the benefits of the base Motorola BMC9022 including:
-- Pausing a TV program or DVD in the living room and picking it up in the
bedroom;
-- Scheduling recordings from the second TV;
-- Accessing the same program simultaneously on two TVs;
-- Full transport control of live broadcasts such as Pause, Instant
Replay, Rewind, Fast Forward -- from the second TV;
-- Storing content (video, music, photos, etc.) on the main media center
and accessing it instantly from the second TV.
-- Enjoying the same user-friendly Moxi Menu on the second TV, allowing
consumers to easily navigate entertainment options;
-- Listening to music stored on the media center in the bedroom while
watching TV in living room.

"The Moxi Mate expands the footprint of Media Center services enabling consumers to experience their cable services and digital media content throughout their home," added Billmaier.
