MessageLabs Listed in the `Visionary' Quadrant By Influential Industry Analysts in Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Spam Filtering

MessageLabs, the leading provider of email security and management services to businesses worldwide, has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the Visionary quadrant in its first ever Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Spam Filtering, 1Q04 Report published March 2, 2004.

According to Gartner, 'Visionaries have demonstrated strong vision and offer a full range of the functionalities that enterprises require for effective spam filtering: sophisticated detection, management and spam content expertise.' Also, vendors in the Visionary quadrant have a clear vision of market direction and are focused on preparing for that, but they can still improve in terms of optimizing service delivery.

MessageLabs formalized its entry into the North America market less than a year ago, after building a hugely successful business in the U.K. Being listed in the Visionary quadrant so early on is really quite remarkable, said Jos White, President of MessageLabs Americas.

We are the only global email security services provider delivering enterprise-class solutions beyond spam. We have an unparalleled managed anti-virus service that comes with a guaranteed 100% protection against email-borne viruses and an image filtering service that helps companies establish and enforce email usage policies. We believe we have the vision and the ability to execute--and our growth, client base and partners are testament to that.

MessageLabs' fourth-generation anti-spam service features multiple detection techniques including thousands of heuristics rules, Bayesian probability, smart signatures, fuzzy fingerprints and open proxy detection. The service features an incredibly low false positive rate of .04% and an HTML-based quarantine that includes daily or weekly email digests and single click-and-release options.

MessageLabs backs its service with multiple SLAs for network availability, email latency and customer support. Clients can customize their service and mail handling options using InSight, a web-based management portal that provides near real-time data and reporting functionality.

MessageLabs has achieved phenomenal success and proven the financial and technical advantages of using a managed service to stop spam at the Internet layer before it ever reaches corporate networks. With spam now accounting for 67% of all email traffic, those savings can be significant.

The financial advantages include savings on:

-- Bandwidth, processing and storage costs related to receiving spam

-- Customer support and maintenance, which is included with the cost of the service

-- Reduced regulatory compliance costs related to storing all received emails, more than half of which can be eliminated as spam

Technical advantages include having:

-- A centrally managed service that can be provisioned within hours

-- Continuously updated detection techniques identifying new types of spam

-- Built in protection against dictionary, DOS and mail bomb attacks supported by a redundant global infrastructure

-- Built in intrusion detection and disaster recovery features

-- Customer support that is included 24/7

-- Availability, latency, customer care service levels backed by the most far reaching and guaranteed SLAs
