Global Researchers Collaborating to Advance 1:1 Educational Computing

TAIPEI, Taiwan, March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Central University announced the first global collaborative research network on 1:1 (one on one) educational computing among world topnotch e-learning researchers and signed a MOU with HP Taiwan.

''In ten years of time, we observe that the opportunity for dramatic change in education as hardware and software technology advances. The development of learning science and technology will form the trend of next generation learning. Researchers share this responsibility to guide the change.'' Said C. S. Liu, President of the National Central University.
The G1:1 (Global one-on-one) program is an initiative to support increased international sharing and coordination of 1:1 networked learning devices throughout the world. As technologies prevail and become affordable, it is then predicted that in the next ten years, every student will be equipped with some kind of portable device which has wireless communication and computing capability. These devices will become indispensable learning tools like pencils; yet enable students to learn more quickly, more deeply, and with more fun, whether in classroom or outdoor settings.
Around 100 top notch scholars based in universities and non-profits from eight countries convened this week in Taiwan to share insights on learning trends and participate in the 2nd IEEE International Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Technology of Education. Initiated by the NCU, they have decided to form an on-going and synergistic sharing and exchanges of components in areas of activity models, digital learning contents, methodologies, software and success measurements.
NCU also engaged private sectors. A MOU is signed with HP. HP will provide solution for wireless infrastructure, and help develop 1:1 digital learning platform. Andy Lai, General Manager of Enterprise Marketing & Solutions of HP Taiwan said,'' HP has been very dedicated to the research and development of K-12 e education and beyond. In addition to delivering world's largest e-learning project C2K (Classroom 2000), HP allocates many resources to partner with academia to deliver technology solutions such as literacy solution to underserved community in India and the Alan-K project with Kyoto University. Our cooperation with the NCU started when it was among the Asian seven winners of HP 2003 Mobility Technology Award. With a close working relationship, we hope to help develop next generation e learning device affordable to the majority of students.''
