Meru Networks Partners with Nissho Electronics and Tokyo Electron to Bring 3rd Generation Wi-Fi to Japan
TOKYO & SUNNYVALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- June 30, 2004 -- Meru Air Traffic Control Technology with Support for High Density of Users and Over-the-Air QoS Uniquely Suited for Rapidly Expanding Japanese Wireless LAN Market
Meru Networks, the leader in voice over wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure technology, today announced strategic partnerships with Nissho Electronics Corporation and Tokyo Electron Ltd, two leading Japanese IT solutions providers. Both companies will distribute, resell, and support Meru's 802.11 Wireless LAN products to meet the advanced voice and data requirements of their enterprise customers throughout Japan.
"Japan represents one of the fastest growing WLAN markets globally, particularly for Voice over WLAN, and we recognize the importance of partnerships with well-respected companies like Nissho Electronics and Tokyo Electron to satisfy the strong customer demand," said Ujjal Kohli, Founder and CEO of Meru Networks. "With many years in the IT services business providing innovative technology solutions to customers in Japan and a country-wide sales and support foot print, Nissho and Tokyo Electron have the technical expertise, geographic reach and resources to drive Meru's expansion into the Japanese market."
"In our extensive search for a WLAN solution partner, we have identified Meru Networks as the vendor-of-choice for robust enterprise applications such as voice over WLAN," said Takashi Fukuda, Senior Managing Director of Nissho Electronics Corporation. "Meru's innovative technology provides us with the necessary capabilities to support over-the-air quality of service, seamless mobility, ease of deployment, and scalability requirements in enterprise WLAN environments."
"Despite recent efforts to improve management and security, current WLAN solutions have failed to meet the rigorous needs of the Japanese market," observed Vic Amano, VP & General Manager of Tokyo Electron's Computer Network Division. "By uniquely addressing critical issues such as co-channel interference, zero-handoff, and quality of service, the Meru WLAN System enables Tokyo Electron to easily deliver a WLAN solution that will support business-critical applications, including voice."
Meru's Wireless LAN System is the industry's only completely standards-compliant solution capable of delivering toll-quality voice calls over an enterprise WLAN. It enables an enterprise to deploy a single converged wireless network for voice, video and data, reducing the cost of deployment and administration as well as equipment costs. Meru's Wireless LAN System includes the Meru Access Point, a standards-compliant, 802.11 access point that simultaneously acts as an access point and radio-frequency monitor; the Meru Controller, a centralized gateway by which all security, QoS and management policies can be configured and enforced across the entire WLAN.
