Versata Unveils a New Partner Program; ``Running with Versata'' Partner Program Enhances Developer Productivity While Adding Marketing Support

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)-- June 29, 2004 -- Versata, Inc. (Nasdaq:VATA), a leading provider of software and services that automate the development and ongoing management of data-intensive applications, today announced the "Running with Versata" partner program. This new Independent Software Vendor (ISV) program is the first of three partner initiatives that will further broaden the adoption of Versata as a development and runtime platform for data intensive J2EE applications. Versata provides a software development platform that can increase developer productivity, reduce development costs and deliver a positive impact in the development, deployment and maintenance of enterprise applications.

ISV partners have already chosen the Versata Logic Suite (VLS) for its automated application development and management capabilities of data-intensive applications. These partners, such as American Management Systems, have implemented a number of applications based on Versata. Initial project experience with Versata has helped some partners reduce development effort on their projects from thousands of man-days to just a few hundred man-days.

The new "Running with Versata" ISV program will feature a scalable pricing component allowing partners to start developing with a low initial investment. Program features will include:

-- Development licenses to support the creation, testing and delivery of ISV applications;

-- Initial architecture consulting to assist in taking maximum advantage of Versata products and services;

-- Product rollout support for co-marketing programs, which may include press activities, collateral, logos, use of trademarks and web site references;

-- And, ongoing support to include new Versata product releases and lead referral plans for any lead resulting in the direct sale of Versata licenses.

"We're encouraged by the initial response to our Running with Versata partner program," said Linda Giampa, vice president, Worldwide Field Operations for Versata, Inc. "This renewed commitment to our ISV partners is a win-win. Versata will receive valuable product input while our partners deliver their applications to market more easily and effectively."

Ideally suited for complex data management applications with large transaction requirements, the VLS is a responsive and adaptable development platform. Versata utilizes a declarative development and maintenance model based on business rules that speed the deployment of applications from months to weeks. Versata's declarative approach effectively insulates the complexities of J2EE development while optimizing runtime performance. This approach ensures that applications built with Versata can take full advantage of current and future Java platforms. With the upcoming changes in EJB specifications, this is an especially critical requirement for ISVs looking to develop and deploy new Java applications.

Versata partners come from a variety of industries where rapid application development, deployment and updates are critical to the success of their businesses. From transportation and logistics, to financial services, to supply chain environments, ISVs find the value of Versata's declarative business rules invaluable for developing data intensive transaction applications and maintaining their master data. Moving forward, Versata will also be rolling out two more programs in support of its technology and service partners.

"With Versata, we've been able to concentrate on the logistics business logic instead of losing time and market advantage while rebuilding a new technical framework," said Peter Weber, project leader for Active L-Ware, Active Logistics GmbH, Koblenz, Germany.

"Versata is our strategic IT partner for the field of individual software development in the portal environment. This technology complements our existing standard development software perfectly. Our customers are constantly making short-term IT requests, for example expecting us to quickly provide a certain data set or application. Versata allows us to realize these requirements on short notice via Web technologies," said Andreas Liebeck, manager of the portal/groupware competence centre, Hella KGaA Hueck & Co., Lippstadt, Germany.

"We have staked our value to the utility industry by delivering highly effective products and services, and consistently meeting rapidly changing customer requirements and expectations," said, Steve Derrickson, president of Utility Solutions Inc. "Working with an eye to the future, we enable clients to adapt to the rapid change in rules and business processes. And that capability is enabled by Versata and its declarative rules."
