Advanced Switching Interconnect --ASI-- SIG President Rajeev Kumar to Speak at SUPERCOMM's ``Battle for the Backplane'' AdvancedTCA Track Session

Details: ASI SIG's Rajeev Kumar will participate in a free forum discussion that explores AdvancedTCA(R) (Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture) in ways never before done in a public venue. The "Battle for the Backplane" session will focus on moving beyond the speculation of the physical PICMG 3.0 standard, to address how the backplane will be used in the near future. Many visionary concepts will be considered, such as Universal Mesh Fabrics, Supercomputers the size of a refrigerator and the true meaning of convergence between computing and networking. *T



The "Battle for the Backplane" session will be moderated by Eric M. Mantion at In-Stat/MDR. Other panelists will include Ian Dunn from Mercury Computers (RapidIO representative) and Kevin Deierling from Mellanox Technologies (InfiniBand representative).

Kumar serves as the president of ASI SIG and also manages the Advanced Switching initiative within Intel. Over the last 11 years at Intel, Kumar has held a variety of marketing and engineering roles related to communications and networking. He has spoken at industry events such as the Intel Developers Forum, Communications Design Conference and Bus and Boards Conference. He holds degrees in BSEE from Northwestern University and MSEE from University of Nevada, Reno.



About the ASI SIG

The Advanced Switching Interconnect SIG (ASI SIG) is a non-profit collaborative trade organization tasked with developing and supporting a switched interconnect and data fabric interface specification for communications, storage and embedded equipment, termed Advanced Switching Interconnect (ASI), based on the PCI Express architecture. The ASI SIG's board of directors and members, comprised of industry leading equipment manufacturers and semiconductor and tools vendors, has surpassed 50 members to date. In addition to ongoing technical development of the specification, these member companies help to define, develop and market ASI. Different membership levels provide differing levels of influence, involvement and responsibility. The overall tasks performed by the members of the SIG include establishing broad industry awareness, ongoing technical development and enabling rapid industry adoption through training programs, ecosystem development and interoperability and compliance testing.
