Checkpoint Systems Debuts RFID Printer Solutions Line; METO mi-4210 RFID Printer Paves Way for Smart Label Printing As Industries Continue RFID Migration

THOROFARE, N.J. --(Business Wire)-- June 4, 2004 -- Checkpoint Systems, Inc. (NYSE: CKP), a leading provider of labeling, product identification and shrink management solutions worldwide, has introduced the METO branded mi-4210 RFID, a 13.56 MHz (HF) and EPC-compliant 900 MHz (UHF) thermal RFID printer that supports both basic bar coding and advanced data capture as the printing world migrates towards the adoption of RFID technology applications.

The METO brand mi-4210 RFID printer allows the use of smart labels to combine both product-specific barcode information and radio frequency data in a single thermal label by incorporating a radio frequency circuit into the printed label.

A full range of industries will take advantage of the latest features available in this next generation thermal barcode printer. The METO mi-4210 RFID printer comes in two versions; fully enabled to encode all available RFID protocols or, an upgradeable version offering barcode printing only with ability to add RFID encoding at a later date. This allows customers to purchase a thermal printer today and adapt as needed with minimal investment.

"Checkpoint's METO mi-4210 RFID thermal printer solutions are designed for companies who seek the latest developments in bar code printing using a thermal label printer, but who also want a migration path to an RFID environment," said Theo Bielowicz, BCS product manager, of Checkpoint Systems. "The mi-4210 RFID Ready printer can be easily upgraded to an RFID capable printer with the simple field installation of an RFID module. The best of both worlds are available today with the flexibility of this new high tech product line."

"Checkpoint maintains its leadership in the development of RFID solutions to support a variety of industry initiatives backed by major retailers, government agencies, product manufacturers, the UCC, and the EPCglobal organization," says John Saccameno, GM/VP Printing Division. "These new products ensure that Checkpoint is playing an important role in the development of smart label solutions for the supply chain."

Checkpoint's high performance METO thermal transfer and direct thermal printers meet a wide range of needs throughout the supply chain. Systems range from industrial tabletop printers to compact desktop printers, from 4 to 8.5 inches in print width. Checkpoint offers complete RFID printing solutions for today's needs and for the needs of the future.
