Sun Microsystems Advanced Services Standardizes on Proxima Technology's Centauri Business Service Manager to Enhance its Managed Services Solution

DENVER --(Business Wire)-- July 21, 2004 -- Sun Clients Including a Major Financial Institution in Europe Gain Visibility of IT's Effects on Critical Business Processes Through Proxima Technology's Centauri Business Service Manager(TM)

Proxima Technology, a software provider helping organizations understand and improve the business value of IT, today announced that Sun Microsystems Advanced Services (EMEA) standardizes on Centauri Business Service Manager(TM) (Centauri) to enhance its Managed Services Solution for customers, including a major financial institution in Europe.

Centauri reports on IT service performance against the clients' business processes that Sun supports; by doing so, clients have a clear understanding of how Sun contributes to their business success. Through the Centauri dashboards, IT and business managers from both organizations have access to real-time information on the quality of service being provided.

"Centauri's ability to help Sun guarantee service levels to our managed services clients made our decision to standardize on Centauri easy," stated Andy Barker, Director, Sun Microsystems EMEA Advanced Services -- Sun Services.

"Productivity gains with Centauri were almost immediate. More importantly," added Barker, "by reporting on the business context of our service for any given moment, both Sun and our clients are able to see the contribution being made to their business. This provides a solid basis for a meaningful partnership with our clients."

Centauri also complies with Sun's corporate "Sun Sigma" initiative to deliver high quality services by streamlining IT processes based on Six Sigma improvement techniques. In doing so, Sun aligns its IT resources with the clients' business priorities thereby increasing client satisfaction. Furthermore, Sun is dramatically reducing the cost of service provisioning by eliminating defects from the processes.

"Centauri was implemented in only two days at the bank -- replacing a legacy event management solution -- without any customer disruptions," said Fabrice Burgod, Manager, Sun Microsystems Advanced Services. "Sun Managed Services uses the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework for IT service management and Centauri helps us fully utilize this framework in our IT organization. We couldn't be more pleased with the results."

"Sun Advanced Services is entering this growing market with a highly competitive service. Centauri allows Sun to articulate its value in terms meaningful to business people. This will give Sun tremendous edge over its competitors, both in new business opportunities and rebid. We are very excited for Sun," said Paul McNeil, Managing Director, Proxima Technology.
