Maui Police Department Taps NEC Solutions America Expertise for Integrated Justice & Public Safety Solution

When completed in early 2005, the system -- the core of which is the NEC Criminal Justice Management System (CJMS) -- will be one of the first of its kind, providing a fully-integrated, Web-architected information management system in a public safety environment.

NEC CJMS in Maui will significantly bolster MPD's crime-fighting capabilities, streamline and integrate information processes, and allow law enforcement officials to better allocate departmental resources. Moreover, NEC Solutions America (NECSAM) is integrating MPD's system with those of other local and state agencies, making it easier to track criminals across multiple jurisdictions.

The NEC Criminal Justice Management System offers a series of modules that address specific law enforcement applications. Those modules -- which include Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Case Management, Crime Scene Management, Jail Management, and Automated Field Reporting functions -- and combined with ruggedized mobile computers and NEC fault tolerant servers to provide a comprehensive law enforcement information system to capture, report and analyze the critical information necessary for agencies to better serve their communities.

The NECSAM Solutions Platform Group offers a complete line of enterprise ready Intel(R)-based server solutions with the Express5800 family. The NECSAM solution for MPD included both 32-bit WINTEL-based general purpose servers and 32-bit WINTEL-based fault tolerant servers all sharing an NEC storage area network. This solution combination allows MPD to maintain the industry's highest levels of system reliability, data integrity, and performance. This "no-fail" hardware design was imperative to the MPD's critical law enforcement information system.

As part of the CJMS's functionality, officers can enter and maintain vital information on individuals and attach a variety of digital media. The system automatically creates government standardized forms, including incident and arrest reports. It can capture digital photographic, fingerprint and palmprint images, which prevents alterations of data to ensure evidence admissibility. All data collected in any module can be queried for criminal investigations. This means that names, vehicles, dates, times, narratives, comments, nicknames or any other data can be searched alone or together.
