On-Demand Tops Lexcom's New Slate of Entertainment Choices

LEXINGTON, N.C. & MAYNARD, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- July 13, 2004 --

SeaChange VOD System and VODlink Software Set Stage for Competitive Service; Lexington Area Residents Try VOD First-Hand aboard Digital Television Truck

Lexcom Cable has uncapped an exciting array of on-demand television options for Lexington, N.C. cable subscribers. Using the SeaChange (Nasdaq: SEAC) VOD System and VODlink software, Lexcom's LexCommand leaps ahead of competitive television services in Greensboro/High Point/Winston Salem, N.C., the 44th largest television market in the U.S., with on-demand movies, subscription VOD and more.

"On-demand truly changes television as we know it," said Alan Bailey, vice president and director of operations, Lexcom. "We've pulled out all the stops for our subscribers by establishing a platform that will maximize this convenient new service. 'What you want, when you want it' viewing convenience is just the beginning. Ultimately, we believe our customers will expect their DVDs to be delivered the same way and we're setting the stage for that breakthrough as well."

VODlink provided the environment for Lexcom to custom develop its own subscriber navigation interfaces for LexCommand. Extending beyond on-demand's pause, fast-forward and rewind convenience, LexCommand's VOD Extra later will take full advantage of its VODlink foundation to deliver DVD movies and other DVD programming as it becomes available. Incorporating actual DVD menus, features, chapters and extras, VODlink elevates on-demand to include the complete DVD experience.

Last Thursday in downtown Lexington, Lexcom demonstrated its LexCommand interactive service for hundreds of area residents as part of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce's 'Alive after Five' event series. Aboard SeaChange's Digital Television Truck, people were able to test-drive the new on-demand and High-Definition television services.

VODlink software was developed by SeaChange subsidiary Digital Video Arts to empower television operators with strategic interactive capabilities, such as incorporating full-motion video into Interactive Program Guides and other advanced television applications, and employing new interactive advertising options and DVD-on-demand. The simplicity of DVD authoring helps operators accommodate a range of new content for on-demand services -- including local programming, long-form advertising and games.

"With a tremendous customer focus and a goal for surpassing all competitive offerings, Lexcom has deployed a world-class digital television service and we're proud to be part of it," said George Breen, president, Digital Video Arts. "On-demand alone is a tremendous leap from scheduled television. Enhanced with VODlink's advantages, LexCommand will far surpass consumers' expectations."
