New Technology Provides World's Most Advanced Automated Identity-Document Authentication System

MANCHESTER, N.H. --(Business Wire)-- July 13, 2004 --

AssureTec Systems of Manchester, N.H. Launches AssureID(TM) to Improve Border Security, Reduce Document Fraud and Limit Identity Theft

At most security and border posts, officials verify identification documents such as passports by manually using reader devices that look at just one or two document attributes, ignoring the dozens of embedded high-tech security features. But that could change with the debut today of the AssureTec AssureID(TM) document-authentication system.

The system uses the company's i-Dentify Reader, paired with its intelligent-analytics software and a document database, to recognize and extract security information from identification documents, while assessing the security risk of the documents and the people presenting them - all within a few seconds.

The system, which has already gone through a series of successful early-stage deployments, was introduced this morning at the Innovative Technologies in Homeland Security Conference and Exhibition in San Diego (www.dhstech.com). It is immediately available to end-users, value-added-resellers (VARs) and systems integrators.

"Our system provides an unparalleled level of quality for automated document-authentication at transit points such as airports, seaports and border crossings," says Bruce Reeves, CEO of AssureTec Systems, Inc., the Manchester, N.H. company that has been developing the system for the past three years. Reeves also notes that the system has already been deployed for border protection and expects more systems to be deployed soon by several foreign governments.

"AssureID(TM) is also gaining strong interest from many companies in the commercial market, where real-time screening is becoming increasingly important," says Reeves. "It's the ideal solution for organizations that need to protect against document fraud and identity theft, including those in industries such as banking, gaming and corporate security."

AssureID(TM) Uses Sophisticated Hardware, Software and Document Library for Tailored Verification

The AssureTec system works by applying its proprietary AssureID(TM) Classify and Search Software to a person's identification documents. This platform of advanced-analytical software can detect and classify each document known to the system, then extract all the data and security information from the document. The software also analyzes the document's ability to consistently meet security proof-points, insuring that it is authentic - or pointing out suspicious problem areas.

Additional system components include:

-- The i-Dentify(TM) Reader - A highly advanced document reader consisting of a camera and multi-spectrum lighting system that is able to capture all the information from a document in less than five seconds. The system, which uses up to five different light sources, can identify every security feature on the market, including those that can only be read using non-standard light sources such as infrared, ultraviolet and white coaxial. According to Reeves, "no other system offers such a full range of light sources in one simple device."

-- The AssureTec Document Database - A complete database of all passports, visas, North American drivers' licenses and other country-identification documents. AssureTec compiled the database over the past two years with the support of numerous governments and agencies around the world.

User-Customization Creates Rules Specific to Document Types

The AssureTec system provides users with the ability to customize its features to comply with national and regional privacy laws and regulatory requirements. AssureID's(TM) built-in software-development-kit (SDK) provides users with full control over the system's level of document scrutiny.

For example, a person entering the U.S. with a domestic passport does not need to have a visa checked and does not need to have any image or data information stored for government use. A person entering with a foreign passport, however, needs to have a U.S. Visa checked, their passport examined, and their image and data captured for comparison against watch lists, if necessary.

The AssureID(TM) system simplifies this process because it automatically knows what type of document has been presented and then adjusts its level of scrutiny on an individual basis: lower levels for U.S. passports and higher levels for foreign documents, for example.

Integrates Advanced Intelligence Information and Biometrics

The AssureID(TM) system also helps users leverage intelligence information and biometrics. The system can capture all the data printed on an identification document using optical character recognition (OCR) software, as well as any biometric information stored on the document, including facial images and fingerprints. The captured information can then be used to search watch lists, suspicious document-number lists and biometrics databases.
