VCON Desktop Videoconferencing Software To Support H.264

VCON, a worldwide leader in audio and videoconferencing solutions, today announced that its vPoint software-only desktop videoconferencing product will be upgraded to include the new H.264 standard, giving it the highest quality video available on the market today.

The H.264 video standard was introduced in December 2002 and ratified in November 2003. The new standard surpasses earlier video standards in terms of video quality, compression efficiency and resilience to packet and data loss, the type of network impairments found on the Internet.

"VCON will have the H.264 standard represented in all its videoconferencing product lines - desktop, group systems and infrastructure," said Gordon Daugherty. "The H.264 video standard will increase the already-exceptional video quality of vPoint, making it a truly business-class software-only desktop conferencing product."

vPoint, now available in a stand-alone software model, is a high-quality desktop videoconferencing product with data rates from 64Kbps to 1.5Mbps over IP networks. With embedded features such as PacketAssistTM for QoS and VCON's exclusive Interactive Multicast, it is the highest quality software-only videoconferencing product on the market. vPoint with H.264 support is expected to be available during Q2 2004.
