Symon Communications Continues Solid, Profitable Growth in 2003

Revenues up 18 percent; profits climb 45 percent over 2002; Success attributed to expansion into new markets with acquisition of TargetVision; new product development; and added leadership

(January 29, 2004) PLANO, Texas -- Symon Communications, Inc., a leading provider of real-time enterprise information for productivity and performance management, has completed its 23rd consecutive year of profitable growth. During 2003, Symon’s revenue grew 18 percent, while year-to-year net income grew by more than 45 percent. Symon attributes the company’s success to myriad growth activities, such as its new, expanded product line – including launch of its Symon Vista real-time data visualization tool, new software releases for Symon Community, and introduction of NetLite II wireless real-time display technology. Also, the company’s acquisition of TargetVision and consequent expansion into the corporate and employee communications market contributed to Symon’s profitable growth. Finally, Symon strengthened its leadership team, including the hiring of industry-veteran John Mastrangeli to head up the company’s sales in North America.
Commenting on the company’s 2003 success, President and CEO Charles Ansley said, “2003 was a watershed year for Symon. We completed the evolution from our former position as a respected hardware and software provider to now being recognized as offering robust integrated solutions for our now expanded customer base. The growth and expansion in 2003 has positioned us on all fronts for unprecedented success in 2004 and beyond, including having some exciting products in the development pipeline for release this year.”
New Product Development
Following its corporate move in 2003 from Sugar Land, Texas, to Plano, Texas, Symon released its new Symon Vista real-time browser-based reporting, performance scorecard and executive dashboard tool, a solution specifically designed for demanding enterprise environments such as contact centers, help desks, IT centers and network operations centers. The Symon Vista software tool enables the real-time data capture, manipulation and reporting needed to consolidate mission-critical information from a wide variety of data sources and to display that information with browser-based custom and drill down capability, scorecards, and interactive dashboard views for almost any scenario.
The company also released significant enhancements to its award-winning, 100 percent browser-based workforce management tool, Symon Community, offering customers continued affordability and ease of use while providing advanced features for the mid-sized contact center. Responding to customer suggestions and comments, the improved Community allows for significant IT cost savings, Web familiarity for easy navigation and use, and real savings by accurately forecasting and scheduling agents, which are the biggest expense in the contact center.
In June, the company continued its focus on helping contact center customers improve performance management with the launch of Symon NetLite II, the only wireless LED panel on the market. This product
solves the need for increased productivity and improved team awareness of critical business metrics, regardless of
time or location. This next-generation LED is the most technologically advanced wireless real-time display in the industry today.
“The innovation and flexibility offered by Symon’s newest suite of products is revolutionary,” said Ansley. “We’re continuing to listen to our customers and provide them the performance management information solutions they need to run more productive businesses in today’s environment.”
Acquiring TargetVision
Not only has the company expanded its core product line, it has launched into new markets with the acquisition of TargetVision, a benchmark provider of corporate and employee communication systems and services headquartered in Rochester, N.Y. The addition of the TargetVision product line enhances Symon’s performance and productivity information technology line-up with television and plasma displays driven by unique enterprise communications software that transforms and broadcasts data creatively, integrating graphics and text with full-motion video.
With the acquisition, Symon’s new and wider suite of human performance tools will enable local and global enterprises to improve their productivity significantly. Symon clients will benefit from TargetVision’s highly experienced communications professionals, who rank at the top of the industry in relaying cable, commercial news feeds, education and employee communications, and global information services to enterprises large and small.
Strengthening Leadership
Finally, with all the activity of launching new and improved product lines and acquiring a new suite of offerings, the company has beefed up its management team. Mike Neal, formerly senior vice president of sales, is now general manager of the TargetVision division and senior vice president of Symon. Assuming duties as the senior vice president of Sales North America is John Mastrangeli, a career sales and management executive formerly with BMC Software and IBM.
“The capabilities we launched in 2003 contributed to the successful accomplishment of our goals and set the groundwork for additional growth this year,” Ansley continued. “We will continue to seek ways to reinforce our commitment to customer support by developing and tailoring our suite of products to help businesses increase their operational performance and productivity through unique enterprise information solutions. As we said when TargetVision joined our team, it’s a whole new ballgame, and we’re looking to 2004 to continue our winning streak.”
