Phonom Selects Lucent Technologies Accelerate Solutions to Deliver Residential VoIP Services to Customers in Mid-Atlantic Region
Lucent Technologies today announced that Phonom(SM), a new privately held telecommunications company specializing in digital IP telephony, selected Lucent's Accelerate(TM) Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) solutions to provide VoIP calls as well as enhanced services to residential customers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
Also today Phonom announced the launch of its VoIP services to broadband cable and DSL residential customers, as well as enhanced features such as web voice mail and a web portal to manage communications and business tools. Phonom began offering VoIP services Jan. 6.
The Lucent solutions currently being deployed include the Accelerate portfolio's VoIP switching platforms, web-enabled voice mail and a unifying web portal that enables consumers to manage phone calls, e-mails, voice mail, calendars, address books and more from any computer or personal digital assistant.
"We want to make it easy and seamless for customers to sign onto this new service from the outset. The technology and the equipment to deliver a reliable and cost-efficient IP network and enhanced services suite has arrived. Lucent's Accelerate VoIP solutions will enable us to offer next-generation services to our customers and fulfill the promise of IP telephony," said Brad Evans, Phonom founder.

Lucent's Accelerate solutions help wireline and mobile service providers rapidly deliver profitable Internet Protocol-based voice, data and multimedia services.
The solutions support the convergence of traditional voice services with multimedia services, including Web-based features. This will allow service providers to offer consumers and enterprises new voice and data applications such as unified communications, multimedia messaging, location-based services, IP Centrex, and voice and data virtual private networks.
An Accelerate network also will offer wireline and mobile operators the efficiencies and cost-savings of IP networking. Accelerate solutions are designed to allow a service provider to evolve an existing circuit switched network or build a new - VoIP -- network for a specific application or region where there isn't one. As a result of Bell Labs networking expertise and Lucent service offerings, Accelerate solutions will be more efficient, secure and reliable than the IP networks of today.
Accelerate solutions are built on industry standards and offer multi-vendor integration for interworking with third-party application servers and voice gateways.
