Canon Bolsters PIXUS MP Series of Bubble Jet MFPs with Four New Models Offering Enhanced Usability

Canon today announced in Japan the introduction of four new additions to the company's highly appraised PIXUS MP series of high-performance Bubble Jet multifunction systems: the Canon MultiFunction Printers PIXUS MP710, MP740, MP375R and MP390.

PIXUS MP710 and MP740
Replacing the PIXUS MP700 and MP730, respectively, the new Canon PIXUS MP710 and MP740 appeal to the needs of SOHO (Small Office Home Office) users, incorporating color printing, copying and scanning functions in compact body designs. The MP740 also offers the added convenience of a faxing function. Featuring Canon's Advanced Precision Color Distribution Technology and enhanced sheet-feed and recovery systems, the duo realize output performance of 22 pages per minute in monochrome and 14 ppm in color. Moreover, a high-density printhead, featuring 1,600 Canon Super Photo Nozzles, and Canon's New "MicroFine Droplet Technology" ensure that the MP710 and MP740 achieve high-speed performance at no cost to image quality, ejecting microscopic two-picoliter ink droplets to realize superlative 4,800 x 1,200 dot-per-inch (dpi) photo-resolution images when printing.

The systems also feature New Canon Digital Photo Color, a proprietary image-processing technology that ensures the faithful reproduction of digital photo images, achieving color performance that matches human preference. The technology enables the production of beautiful, vivid images, particularly in shots featuring landscapes and people.

The new Canon PIXUS MP710 and MP740 multifunction systems also incorporate a flatbed scanner-type document platen, enabling books and magazines to be scanned at high 1,200 x 2,400 dpi resolution, or copied in color at 1,200 x 1,200 dpi. Moreover, One Pass Multi-Scan mode enables multiple images of varying sizes to be placed anywhere on the platen and scanned together in a single pass. The convenient feature automatically adjusts alignment and creates a separate file for each image, drastically reducing scanning time and effort.

In addition to incorporating memory-card slots to enable quick and easy Card Direct printing of digital photos, the duo offer a convenient Photo Index Sheet function. As well as providing users with thumbnail previews of memory card images, the function enables users to mark with a pencil or black pen the images they want to print, including the quantity and layout style, and start the printing process by simply scanning the sheet.

The PIXUS MP710 and MP740 ship with a DVD/CD Direct disk-printing unit that enables them to print directly on the surface of recordable disks. Other performance enhancing features include borderless printing and copying across a broad range of media sizes including L (127 x 89 mm), postcard (152 x 102 mm), 2L (178 x 127 mm) and A4 sizes, as well as new formats such as panorama-size (89 x 254 mm) print paper. And, catering to business needs, the MP740 is equipped with a 30-page automatic document feeder to support continuous scanning, copying and faxing tasks; and a high-speed Super G3 facsimile function, enabling data transmission at up to 33.6kbps.

PIXUS MP375R and MP390
The new Canon PIXUS MP375R is a compact personal MFP which, replacing the popular MP370 released in October 2003, inherits all the high performance color printing, copying and scanning features of its predecessor while offering the added benefit of a wireless LAN interface (IEEE802.11b) for flexible connectivity as a standalone unit or in a wireless home network.

In addition, Canon announced a new Super G3 fax-equipped model--the PIXUS MP390--offering home users an alternative to the SOHO-model PIXUS MP740.

Delivering outstanding print performance, the PIXUS MP375R and MP390 utilize a high-density multi-nozzle printhead to achieve outstanding 4,800* x 1,200-dpi resolution and fast print speeds of 18 ppm in monochrome and 12 ppm in color. The duo also feature Canon's Super Photo Nozzles, which ensure the precise delivery of microscopic prescribed-volume ink droplets as small as two picoliters for maximal photo-image clarity and smoothness.

In addition to memory card ports for Card Direct printing of digital photos, the PIXUS MP375R and MP390 newly support the PictBridge direct print standard, enabling users to print digital photos from any PictBridge-compatible digital camera or digital video camcorder, regardless of brand, with just a single USB-cable connection.

Incorporating a high-resolution CCD scanner, the new systems enable books or magazines to be scanned in color at a high 1,200 x 2,400 dpi. Other high-performance features include a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface, borderless photo printing and copying, and Canon's convenient Photo Index Sheet function.

* Ink droplets can be placed with a minimum pitch of 1/4,800 inch
