Telcel To Launch ZIM’s Wireless E-mail Solutions That Use SMS Text Messaging

ZIM (OTCBB: ZIMCF), a mobile consumer and enterprise application developer for the global two-way SMS (Short Message Service) channel, announced that three of its wireless products have been selected by Mexico-based Telcel, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the world’s fifth largest carrier, America Movil, for introduction to Telcel’s customers. The products, to be called Telcel SMS Office (Standard and Enterprise) and Telcel SMS Mail, offer wireless e-mail through an innovative software-only solution and SMS text messaging, providing the functionality of advanced wireless handheld devices on any mobile phone.

"This suite of wireless products is about convenience, ease of use and most importantly – affordability,” said Humberto Chavez, Value-Added Service and Revenue Assurance Corporate Director for Telcel. “Many of our customers desire low-cost wireless devices, solutions and connectivity. The combination of ZIM’s mobile tools and our users’ existing mobile phones is ideal and we believe will have strong appeal in the marketplace.”

Telcel SMS Mail, the entry level product, allows e-mail forwarding from virtually any e-mail account to a mobile phone with reply capabilities. Telcel SMS Office Standard Edition, designed for the Microsoft Outlook environment, allows users not only to receive, reply to and forward e-mail, but also integrates reminders and calendar items. The more advanced Enterprise Edition is designed for a networked environment. It also includes real-time ‘to phone’ meeting invitations and uses a host of phone initiated on-demand commands for maximum connectivity and productivity.

“Partnering with the fifth largest carrier in the world for our SMS technology is a significant achievement for ZIM,” said Dr. Michael Cowpland, President and CEO of ZIM. “The fact that our products offer ‘Blackberry-like’ functionality at an affordable price makes them a perfect match for the America Movil global customer base and demonstrates the value of wireless solutions that link the desktop with any mobile phone through SMS.”

All products will be sold through Telcel’s existing sales network and are fully compatible with SMS-enabled mobile phones. Products are localized for the Mexican market with customer support provided directly by Telcel.

Once the products have been rolled out in Mexico, it is expected that parent company America Movil will introduce the products to additional markets where America Movil owns and operates wireless carrier properties. These markets include: USA, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. In total, these markets have a combined user base of nearly 44 million wireless subscribers for the wireless company.
