[February 11, 2004] Intelcom San Marino Deploys VocalTec Platform to Support Its International Wholesale Business Operations VocalTec Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: VOCL), a leading telecom equipment provider offering packet voice solutions for carriers and service providers, today announced that Intelcom San Marino (ISM), a fully owned subsidiary of Telecom Italia Sparkle (TIS), has deployed VocalTec's packet tandem switching solution to support its international wholesale operations. VocalTec's field-proven packet tandem switching solution is being used by ISM to carry international traffic from Telecom Italia and other carriers to destinations around the world. The solution was deployed, tested and commercially launched within a two-month time frame, in the fourth quarter of 2003. Deployment included interconnection with international exchange carriers. In this initial phase of ISM's implementation, traffic from TIS' existing platform is being routed through VocalTec's equipment at ISM in order to benefit from VocalTec's intelligent routing and enhanced interoperability. The packet tandem switching solution consists of VocalTec's carrier-class telephony gateways, SS7 signaling gateways, call control and network management components. VocalTec's solution offers industry-leading SS7 support, including interworking support for 58 national SS7 variants, facilitating international deployments. Flexible routing capabilities, including least cost and time-based routing, improve call completion rates and maximize use of network resources. VocalTec's unique solution allows ISM to provide exchange carrier routing services to affiliate carriers without needing to install additional equipment.
