Document Systems, Inc. Grows Compliance Department
CARSON, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Dec. 29, 2004 -- The addition of two experienced attorneys bolsters the company's industry-leading compliance and document creation capabilities
Document Systems, Inc. (DSI), a leading developer of mortgage technology for compliant loan document preparation and customer contact management, has announced the addition of two attorneys to its in-house Legal Department. Melanie A. Feliciano, Esq. and Renee M. Smith, Esq. have joined the company's legal team as assistant general counsel and staff counsel, respectively.
DSI has made it a primary business objective to attract top talent in every department to continually strengthen its compliance and document creation capabilities. This has resulted in the company's ability to offer every component required for fully compliant, automated mortgage lending. Due to the increasingly complex regulatory environment, DSI has secured 3,000 square-feet of additional office space adjacent to DSI headquarters for its growing in-house Legal Department.
"The addition of Melanie and Renee is a real win for our company. These professionals add additional depth to our existing team of talented in-house attorneys," said Don Iannitti, president and CEO of Document Systems, Inc. "We now have the best in-house legal department in the industry. Our expert compliance team has made it possible for DSI to provide innovative solutions to industry-wide problems that ensure the safety of our lender-clients' businesses. The addition of Melanie and Renee add to the synergy of the legal team, allowing the department to continue providing specialized mortgage packages to meet virtually any need."
Feliciano has been practicing law since 1991 and comes to DSI with experience from several local firms, where she specialized in regulatory and compliance issues. Prior to joining DSI, she was a senior associate attorney at the Los Angeles firm of Swedelson & Gottlieb, where she handled compliance and homeowner-related litigation cases. She has also practiced with Los Angeles-based Robert Smylie & Associates, where she counseled financial institutions and real estate developers in regulatory and compliance matters.
Smith joins the team as staff counsel with an extensive background in real estate law. Practicing law since 1998, she has worked with a variety of local firms, most recently Parker Stanbury, LLP, an AV-rated firm, where her practice included residential and commercial property acquisition and sales, financing and leasing. Prior to her work at Parker Stanbury, Smith worked as in-house legal counsel for an industrial supply company, where she focused on real estate transactions, environmental liability issues and litigation.
Feliciano and Smith will report to Bill Lambropoulos, general counsel and director of compliance for Document Systems, Inc.
Lambropoulos joined DSI in September 1998 and has served as director of compliance and legal affairs since that time. Prior to joining DSI, Lambropoulos was general counsel for a number of national wholesale direct lenders, including One Stop Mortgage, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aames Financial Corporation; BNC Mortgage, Inc. and Quality Mortgage USA, Inc. Before joining Quality Mortgage, Lambropoulos served as associate general counsel of the California Credit Union League, a trade association representing the interests of credit unions in the state. He was also in private practice in the real estate section of Hill, Wynne, Troope and Meisinger in Los Angeles.
"Melanie and Renee bring a wealth of experience that will be a tremendous addition to this company," Lambropoulos said. "They will be a vital addition to the DSI team and a great benefit to the lenders that trust DSI to help them do more business every day."
Iannitti agreed. "Building our legal department is the best thing we can do for our customers today. Our software is already the easiest to use document creation program on the market. Lenders want to know that every document they draw is correct and fully compliant with every local, state and federal law. Our compliance team gives them that assurance."
In addition, the growth of DSI's in-house legal team has allowed the company to develop a number of innovative programs, such as a new variable-rate, interest only mortgage package and a home equity line of credit (HELOC) package. Because these types of loans can often be difficult and paper intensive, DSI's legal department created templates for each jurisdiction in the United States that can be tailored for individual customers. Lambropoulos said the company would be releasing additional innovative programs soon.
